Historical society posts open house

The Historical Society of the Cocalico Valley, 249 W. Main St., Ephrata, will host its annual Christmas Open House on Sunday, Dec. 3, from 1 to 4 p.m.

This is a time for the community to share in the Christmas season at the Connell Mansion, the 1869 home of Moore and Rebecca Konigmacher Connell and their daughters, who lived there for nearly a century. Attendees will be able to take a walk back in time and experience the family's Victorian home decorated for the season.

There will be musical entertainment throughout the day, including organist Mark Herr playing the antique pump organ. Santa will wait for the children to arrive, and volunteers will be available to talk with guests about the house and the family who lived there.

The Conestoga Press Living History Print Shop, located behind the mansion, will be open, where there will be demonstrations of 19th-century printing practices. Everyone will leave with a souvenir printed on the antique press.

Light refreshments will be served in the education room, where attendees will also be able to purchase old-fashioned lollipops.
