Historical society sets events

The Manheim Historical Society has announced its June events.

A Kids' Fair will be held on Sunday, June 9, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Fasig and Keath log houses, 30-32 E. High St., Manheim. Featured will be a Keystone wildlife display, face painting, Colonial games and a Story Stroll. Story hours will be held at 1:15 and 3:15 p.m. Nick DiSanto, a one-man band, will perform from 2 to 3 p.m. House tours will also be available.

On Sunday, June 16, a program will be held at the Manheim Railroad Station, 210 S. Charlotte St. Guest speaker Mike Gerhard will present a program at 2 p.m. about dowsing, also known as "witching," which is the practice of using a pointer to locate underground items.

The program on Sunday, June 30, will also be at the Manheim Railroad Station. A living history program, "A Conversation with Ben Franklin and His Friends from Paris," will be presented at 2 p.m. by Craig Hall. Re-enactors will also portray the German regiment of the Continental Army.

On both June 16 and 30, the museum will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. Visitors may take a tour, view the model train display, learn about Stiegel-type glass and, weather permitting, take a trolley ride.
