Historical Society Sets Meeting

The Mount Joy Area Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 20, at the Cemetery Road Schoolhouse, 120 Fairview St., Mount Joy. The guest speaker will be Jean-Paul Benowitz, who will present "Debunking Myths About PA Dutch Culture."

Pennsylvania, particularly Lancaster County and neighboring communities, hosts the oldest and one of the largest populations of Amish, Mennonites, and Brethren in the nation, and millions of tourists visit the region each year. Benowitz will discuss how most of what people know about the Pennsylvania Dutch culture is not true but has been influenced by the tourism industry. Attendees can learn the truth about the Pennsylvania Dutch culture.

Refreshments and tours of the museum will be available following the program. The meeting is free and open to the public, and donations will be accepted.

The historical society's building is open every Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. Visitors are invited to explore exhibits featuring Mount Joy memorabilia and local history.
