Historical Society Sets Presentation

The Elizabethtown Historical Society, 57 S. Poplar St., Elizabethtown, will hold a program titled "Mennonites and Amish of Lancaster County: History and Contemporary Variety," presented by historian Steven Nolt, on Tuesday, March 17, at 7 p.m.

Nolt will trace the story of the Mennonites and Amish from their origins in the 16th-century Anabaptist movement through their migration to Pennsylvania during the Colonial era. He will also explore the development and diversity of these groups in Lancaster County and surrounding areas. The program will highlight examples and include discussion of the role these groups continue to play in the region today.

Nolt serves as the director of the Young Center for Anabaptist and Pietist Studies at Elizabethtown College. A native of Lancaster County and a member of the Elizabethtown College history faculty since 2016, Nolt is widely recognized for his extensive scholarship and is the author of numerous books and articles on Mennonite, Amish, and Pennsylvania German history.
