Homefields Plans Open Farm Event

Homefields Care Farm, 150 Letort Road, Millersville, will host its annual Open Farm event on Sunday, April 19, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Farmer-led walking tours will take place at noon, 1 p.m., and 2 p.m. The event will also include nature-based activities, a mystery box station for kids, giant Jenga, a DIY project, and music by the 20s Band. The greenhouses will be open to visitors.

Some of Homefields' partners, including Abendessen Bread and Mirror Image Farms, will offer samples. Attendees are welcome to bring a picnic to eat on provided blankets, and they may also purchase food on-site from Koshary Station.

Guests may meet Homefields' community partners, such as Acorn Acres, Lancaster Science Factory, and Lancaster Farmacy. People may also learn about ways they can connect to Homefields, including volunteer opportunities at Homefields and community-supported agriculture (CSA) membership. Homefields' organic CSA is a 24-week vegetable subscription plan now in its 27th season. CSA members enjoy fresh vegetables and herbs all season at a fixed monthly price.

At the Open Farm event, attendees may meet the farmers who grow the vegetables and learn about sustainability practices and organic farming. Guests will have the opportunity to purchase a CSA membership using a special coupon code. The CSA season will begin on Friday, May 29, and continue through Saturday, Nov. 7. Members may pick up their vegetable shares at the farm and have access to pick-your-own fields of herbs, flowers, sweet and hot peppers, cherry tomatoes, berries, and more.

Admission and parking are free, and handicapped-accessible parking is available. Preregistration for the event is requested at http://www.homefields.org. For more information, email info@homefields.org or call 717-572-2719.
