Honey Brook Borough To Resume Concert Series In The Park

Honey Brook Borough Concerts in the Park will resume on Sunday, Aug. 29, when the band Lander will be featured from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. In lieu of an admission fee, attendees are asked to bring nonperishable food items for donation to the Honey Brook Food Pantry.

Lander is a trio based out of Hartford County, Md., that includes Matt Graff on guitar and vocals; his brother, Sean Graff on guitar, bass and vocals; and Howard Timmons on drums. This is the band's first appearance in Honey Brook; the band was scheduled to perform in 2020, but the concert series was canceled because of the pandemic.

Concert goers can expect to hear classic rock music from the 1970s through the 90s. "We will play mostly covers," Sean stated. "We (perform music from) Orleans, America, ZZ Top, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Black Sabbath, and (we do) a lot of harmonies."

Sean said the band's influences include blues-based performers such as Stevie Ray Vaughan and the Allman Brothers Band. "I think the crowd will be singing along with us. It will be fun," he said. "(People should) bring their dancing shoes."

The early beginnings of the band date back to when Sean and Matt sang together around the campfire. "I was only 16 and Matt, my oldest brother, is 16 years older than me," Sean shared. "I got some gigs in Hartford County and asked Matt and Howard to join me and they did. We kept practicing and playing together, and it's been eight years and we haven't stopped. We have 9-to-5 (jobs), but this is our passion."

Sean noted that the band has developed a following after playing at various concert venues in Maryland. "COVID made it harder, but it's been the best experience to be able to play music with family and a close friend and get to see and develop a community of people who enjoy (our music) and support us," he said.

The band's name comes from its interest in space travel; Lander's first self-titled album features a space tiger. "When (the United States) would send spaceships up to the moon, (the ships) would be called lunar landers, and that is where the (name) came from," Sean stated. "(The band is) fascinated with space."

The band members plan to arrive early for the concert in Honey Brook since it is their first time in the area. When asked if he is concerned about summer weather issues, Sean responded, "I think we will have fun no matter what. That's the type of band we are."
