Honey Brook Harmony Day To Feature Family Fun Fest

The annual celebration of Harmony Day will take place in Honey Brook on Saturday, Sept. 17. In addition to communitywide yard sales at the homes of local residents, the event will feature a Family Fun Fest being presented by the Honey Brook Community Partnership (HBCP) from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Honey Brook Fire Company, 679 Firehouse Lane.

Family Fun Fest events will include food sales, children's activities, a flea market and vendors and crafters.

"The last few years we did a health fair. This will be the biggest Family Fun Fest that we ever had," said HBCP member Dawn Schaffer. "(Harmony Day) is all about yard sales, but those generally end by (lunchtime). The rest of the day people can (enjoy activities) at the fire hall."

Featured during the Fun Fest will be an appearance by Stubby the Helicopter from the American Helicopter Museum & Education Center in West Chester. Stubby is an interactive helicopter that travels to schools and community events. On Harmony Day, youngsters will be able to sit in the cockpit, operate the controls and learn how a helicopter works.

Live music will be provided by the Tel Hai Ukulele Band. The Honey Brook Women's Club will have a chicken barbecue, and members of Living God Lutheran Church will host a sale of baked goods. Also on hand will be Mr. Mini's Tasty Donuts and the Welders Food Truck.

Other events on Harmony Day will include a book sale by the Friends of the Honey Brook Community Library. The book sale will take place at the library, 687 Compass Road (Route 10), from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Shoppers will be able to purchase a bag of books for a nominal fee.

A yard sale will take place at Honey Brook Hardware, 5004 Horseshoe Pike, from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Breakfast and lunch items will also be available for sale at the location.

Ryan Tyler, a State Farm agent, will offer free paper shredding from 9 a.m. to noon at 161 Pequea Ave., Honey Brook. Community members may bring up to five boxes of documents for shredding. Select Honey Brook businesses will also have special Harmony Day sales.

Those who attend Harmony Day festivities will have an opportunity to win prizes through a random drawing, including a decorated purse donated by Labs Funeral Home and an autumn garden basket donated by the Honey Brook Women's Club.
