Honey Brook To Celebrate Harmony Day

Honey Brook Harmony Day, featuring community-wide yard sales, a Family Health and Safety Fair, a library book sale and more, will take place on Saturday, Sept. 18, in and around the borough of Honey Brook.

The event, which is presented by the Honey Brook Community Partnership (HBCP), is returning after being canceled in 2020 because of the pandemic. "We are back better than ever. The community is ready; the partnership is ready. We are all looking forward to the event," said HBCP president Corey Ross.

One of the highlights of the day will be a yard sale and book sale from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Honey Brook Community Library, 687 Compass Road. The book sale, being presented by the Friends of the Library, will offer books by the bag for a suggested donation. Yard sale vendors may register by visiting the library or calling 610-273-3303. Vendors are asked to bring their own tables.

The Family Health and Safety Fair will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Honey Brook Fire Company, 679 Firehouse Lane. Featured will be informational booths set up by health and safety service providers, health assessments like blood pressure screenings and activities for children and adults. Those who complete a health and wellness passport will be entered into a prize drawing.

Among those scheduled to participate are the Chester County Department of Health, which will offer free flu shots; Chester County Food Bank's Fresh2You Mobile Market, which will offer free smoothies; the Comcast van; and The Camel Project anti-bullying van.

Entertainment will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Included will be karate demonstrations by Brandywine Martial Arts Academy, line dancing by Beth DeFeo from Living God Lutheran Church in Honey Brook and hands-on CPR demonstrations by Elverson/Honey Brook EMS. Barbecue chicken will be available at the firehouse, and free car seat checkups will be offered from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. by Safe Kids Chester County.

Honey Brook businesses, including Honey Brook Hardware, 5004 Horseshoe Pike, and The Board Used Furniture Shoppe, 4530 Horseshoe Pike, will have special Harmony Day sales. A shredding event will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the State Farm Insurance building, 161 Pequea Ave., Honey Brook.

The Howell Masonic Lodge, 1505 Walnut Road, Honey Brook, will offer free parking and restroom facilities.

As is the tradition, local residents will hold yard sales throughout the day. "Almost every house and porch (will) have a yard sale," said Ross. "We envision people walking around town and the (Family Health and Safety Fair) being the hub of activity. It (will be) great to see the community come out and be outside."

Earlier this year, the HBCP began discussing if Harmony Day would go on as usual. "Because it is outdoor event, we felt pretty comfortable (holding it)," Ross said. "This is the partnership's biggest event. It's a huge effort, but it has been successful in the past and it will be great again this year."
