Horn Farm to offer herbalism class

Horn Farm Center, 4945 Horn Road, York, will host an "Invasive Apothecary" herbalism intensive on Saturday, June 3, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This new program looks at invasive plant species to propose solutions to the challenges presented by prolific, non-native plants. Clinical herbalist and educator Alyssa Dennis of Eclipta Herbal will discuss the larger ecological roles of invasive plants, contemporary and historical human relationships with the land, and the use of invasive species as edible, medicinal, and material resources.

Participants will have the opportunity to taste and interact with herbal preparations made from various invasive plant species as well as see fabric dyed with barberry root, native bee houses made from Japanese knotweed shoots, and a basket made of Japanese honeysuckle vines. Everyone will go home with a 1-ounce bottle of their own invasive plant tincture.

There is a fee. For more information and to register, visit http://www.hornfarmcenter.org/invasive-apothecary/. Preregistration is required. This class is being held in partnership with Eclipta Herbal.
