Hummelstown To Host "Connecting Our Community" Food Truck Event

Food, music, games and community information tables will be featured during the "Connecting Our Community" food truck event set for Saturday, May 14, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Schaffner Park, located on Parkside Avenue in Hummelstown.

The first-time event is being presented by the Hummelstown Community Foundation. "We will have 20 (groups) that will be there with informational tables," said foundation secretary Kelly Williamson. "Kids can play games, and parents can walk around and see what's available. (Visitors) can get something to eat for dinner or just come and have dessert."

Food trucks that will be on hand include Forrest's Feed Co. and Sweet Dawgs Frozen Desserts, among others. There will be music by a DJ and a drumming performance by Love 2 Bee Fit on the park's stage.

The nonprofit organizations that are scheduled to have representatives at the event are Lower Dauphin Communities That Care, the Hummelstown Community Foundation, the William H. and Marion C. Alexander Family Library, Emergency Management Agency of Hummelstown, Hummelstown FFO Bulldogs, American Legion Post 265 and Auxiliary, the Rotary Club of Hummelstown, the Shade Tree Commission, Hummelstown Baseball Softball Association, local Girl Scout groups, Lower Dauphin Youth Football, Hummelstown Historical Society, Hummelstown Community Arts Studio, Shepherd's Closet clothing bank, Love INC of Greater Hershey, Hummelstown Business and Professional Association and Hummelstown Parks and Recreation.

"The idea is for people to get to know the nonprofits in town," Williamson said. "Maybe they can help you or maybe you can volunteer and help them."

The Hummelstown Fire Company and Police Department will also be on hand with emergency vehicles. "We will have two fire trucks and an antique fire truck. Our new police car will also be available to see," said Williamson.

The pavilion in the park will be available for people to eat dinner, and the park's playground will also be open.
