Ice Cream Sundae Day Planned

Fiddle music and Irish step-dancing by the Celtic Martins will cap an afternoon of festivities on Ice Cream Sundae Day, Sunday, June 13, at the Eicher Arts Center, 409 Cocalico St., in Ephrata Borough's Grater Park.

Ice cream sundaes, hot dogs, chips and beverages will be available starting at 2 p.m. and continuing until the festival concludes at 5 p.m., while supplies last. At 2:30 p.m., there will be a performance of "Rumpelstiltskin" by Penn's Woods Puppet Theater, a group that brings the historic entertainment medium of puppet plays to 21st-century Pennsylvania.

The Celtic Martins will perform at 4 p.m. The family musical group features award-winning fiddle-playing sisters Emily, Melissa and Christy playing energetic renditions of Irish and American fiddle tunes and performing some Irish step-dancing routines. Joining them are brother Brian on drums and guitar; brother Zach on fiddle; dad Nelson on guitar; and mom Elaine on bass.

Nelson and Elaine included music in the homeschooling of their children in Lebanon County and began performing with them in public more than 15 years ago. The Celtic Martins previously performed at Eicher in 2017 and 2019.

Most of the Ice Cream Sundae Day festival activities will take place on the outdoor deck of the Eicher Center and on the grounds outside near Cocalico Creek. Visitors are encouraged to bring folding chairs and protective face masks to the event. Admission is free, and donations to the nonprofit Eicher Arts Center Inc. will be accepted.

The Eicher nonprofit was organized close to four decades ago to save and find new uses for the historic building that had been originally constructed by the Eicher family in the early 18th century. Featuring ice cream sundaes at a June public event became an annual tradition.
