Indoor garage sale to be hosted by Millersville Woman's Club

The Millersville Woman's Club will host an indoor garage sale on Saturday, April 15, at the Millersville Community Church, Grace Campus, 163 W. Frederick St., Millersville. Setup for vendors will begin on Friday, April 14, at 2 p.m. and again at 7 a.m. on April 15. The event will be open to the public from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Club members will sell hot dogs, drinks and baked goods. For more information about the garage sale, call 717-397-7965.

The yard sale is one of the club's major fundraisers, which helps the organization continue its ongoing mission to serve the local community. The club's most important activities are civic and philanthropic projects.

The club began in 1957, opening its doors for local women who felt the need to join a civic organization that would include all women of Millersville and surrounding areas. Four women then established the Millersville Woman's Club, which in 1958 became a member of the General Federation of Woman's Clubs.

In past years, the club has supported the Millersville Borough Community Park by buying equipment and planting flowers and memorial trees. Club members continue to maintain one of the main gardens in the park. The club helped the Millersville Lions Club establish the community swimming pool and provided equipment for the Millersville Fire Company. For many years, the club had organized picnics and Halloween and Christmas parties for the children of the former Mennonite Children's Home.

The club's current projects include contributions to local Girl Scout troops, Blue Rock Fire Rescue, Millersville Area Historical Society and the Mennonite Central Committee. It also supports the Loft Community Partnership and various senior citizens' projects, and it organizes holiday parties for local retirement homes.

The club's main focus every year is education. As part of this effort, it funds scholarships and achievement awards for Penn Manor High School (PMHS) seniors. It also sponsors a PMHS sophomore to attend the HOBY Leadership Seminar and purchases books for elementary students.

Those who attend the upcoming garage sale will be able to learn more about the club. New members are welcome. For more information, call 717-917-6677 or 717-872-4834 or search for "Millersville Woman's Club" on Facebook.
