Intergenerational Conference slated

Penn State University will hold the Mid-Atlantic Intergenerational Conference from Wednesday to Friday, July 10 to 12, at the Lancaster Holiday Inn, 26 E. Chestnut St., Lancaster. This event will bring together experts in intergenerational programs, multigenerational families, and urban planning to discuss and promote intergenerational approaches to living, learning, and growing. The conference is designed for community-based organizations, administrators, educators, scholars, advocates, volunteers, students, and others interested in intergenerational programs and practices.

An Intergenerational Community Planning and Placemaking Symposium will take place on July 10. This full-day event will focus on policies that encourage and support intergenerational community planning. It will feature information about the American Planning Association's 2023 "Report on Intergenerational Community Planning," Lancaster city's integration of intergenerational perspectives within its comprehensive planning process, and funding resources through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Community Revitalization Act for intergenerational housing.

Attendees can participate in various tracks covering education and lifelong learning; health and wellness; the arts, culture, and recreation; built and natural environments; and kinship care families.

Rob Kaplow, an award-winning conductor, composer, and author, will open the conference with an interactive, musical session. Donna Butts, executive director of Generations United, will deliver a keynote presentation. Steve Lindsey, chief executive officer for Garden Spot Communities, will deliver a keynote presentation about the need for intergenerational interaction and a vision for the future.
