Irish vocalist concert slated

Susquehanna Folk Music Society (SFMS) will present Irish vocalist Karan Casey performing at The Abbey Bar at the Appalachian Brewing Company, 50 N. Cameron St., Harrisburg, on Wednesday, March 8, at 7:30 p.m. Casey will be accompanied by Sheila Falls on fiddle and Matt Heaton on guitar. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.

The show will premiere new material from Casey's new album "Nine Apples of Gold" released in January as well as favorites from her back repertoire. The songs draw inspiration from a wide range of sources from the personal to the historical and political, touching on themes of family, loss, love, the empowerment of women and Irish revolutionary struggle.

A sense of social responsibility is woven through Casey's work. In 2018, she helped to found FairPle, an organization aimed at achieving fairness and gender balance for female performers in Irish traditional and folk music.

Tickets are general admission, with discounts for SFMS members and students age 22 and under. For details and tickets, visit http://www.sfmsfolk.org or call 717-745-6577.
