Following the conclusion of the race and after all of the times are submitted, winners will be contacted and announced via the JLL Facebook page on Saturday, March 16.

Additionally, the JLL is accepting applications for the 2024 Deborah P. Altman Outstanding Youth Volunteer Award. The award is named for Deborah P. Altman, past president of the JLL, whose life exemplified a commitment to volunteering, a love of children, and service to the community. Since the award was established in 1984, more than $47,000 has been awarded to youths in Lancaster County.

The purpose of the award is to recognize young people who demonstrate exceptional interest, leadership, and involvement in volunteerism as well as to inspire their peers to volunteer in their communities. One high school student will be selected to receive the award, which includes a $1,500 monetary award for the student and a $300 award that the student may designate to a charity of their own choosing.

All applications must be received by Monday, March 4. The winner will be notified via email on Monday, March 18, and the award presentation will take place Monday, April 1, at 7 p.m.

Application is open to students ages 16 to 19 by Jan. 31, 2024. Students must reside in and have completed volunteer work in Lancaster County, and they must have at least a C average this year and the previous academic year. Children of Junior League members are ineligible.

Applications will be evaluated based on the quality of their volunteer work, as assessed by the awards committee; documented volunteer work; a reference from the adult associated with the student's volunteer work; their documented scholastic record; and their properly completed application packet.

Application packets are available at https://jllancaster.org/community-impact/awards and from school guidance counselor offices. These forms may be copied. Questions may be directed to grants@jllancaster.org.
