Joanna Furnace To Hold Tax Day "Foodraiser"

The Hay Creek Valley Historical Association (HCVHA) will offer special takeout Tax Day dinners on Thursday, April 15, at Historic Joanna Furnace in Geigertown. Offered for sale will be Meals for Two, as well as homemade soup and baked goods. All items will be homemade by HCVHA volunteers.

Two Meals for Two options will be available. The first meal, Tuscan chicken macaroni and cheese, will feature a one-and-one-half pound pan of pasta, and the second meal will include a ham and broccoli quiche made in an eight-inch pie pan. Both meals will also include two salads, two pieces of bread and two desserts. All dinners will be sold cold with heating instructions provided.

Chicken corn noodle soup will be sold by the quart, as well as one-and-one-half pound pans of brown sugar coffee cake and baked oatmeal with apple.

Food will be available for pickup at Joanna Furnace between noon and 6 p.m. on April 15. "We do curbside pickup. You pull in and we will bring the food out to you," noted Mark Zerr, HCVHA executive director. "All food must be ordered in advance as we will only have a limited extra amount available during pickup."

To reserve a meal, soup or baked goods, visit http://www.haycreek.org/food-raiser. The order deadline is Saturday, April 10.

Zerr added that the monthly takeout "foodraisers" are being held to supplement the loss of income from Joanna Furnace's monthly breakfasts as well as spring educational activities that were canceled due to the pandemic.

Zerr noted that the 45th annual Hay Creek Festival is expected to take place this fall. It is scheduled for Friday through Sunday, Sept. 10 to 12. Registration forms are currently posted at http://www.haycreek.org for vendors interested in participating in the home craft market, early American craft area and engine/antique car/mechanical technology exhibits.
