Joshua Bell to perform in Lancaster

The Arts at Millersville University will present the benefit concert "An Evening with Joshua Bell" on Thursday, Oct. 10, at 7 p.m. at the Ware Center, 42 N. Prince St., Lancaster.

All proceeds from ticket sales will directly benefit the Ware Center and its community programming, including youth and community outreach programs, subsidized tickets for low-income families, accessibility services, school shows, and master classes.

Grammy Award-winning violinist Bell will perform in the 350-seat Steinman Hall, a space that was designed to be acoustically ideal for a violin and piano duet. The program will include works by Mozart, Schubert, and Faure.

With a career spanning almost four decades, Bell has performed with many major orchestras and maintains engagements as a soloist, recitalist, chamber musician, and conductor. He is also the music director of the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields. Bell received the Avery Fisher Prize, and he was named Instrumentalist of the Year by Musical America and a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum, as well as an Indiana Living Legend in 2000.

He will be accompanied by pianist Peter Dugan, the host of NPR's "From the Top." A multi-genre artist, Dugan has performed as a soloist, recitalist, and chamber musician across North America and abroad. Dugan holds bachelor's and master's degrees from the Juilliard School, where he studied with Matti Raekallio. He serves on the piano faculty at the Juilliard School Evening Division.
