Kids Carnival To Feature Free Games, Food And More

Face painting, sand art, children's games and a puppet show will all be featured during a Kids Carnival to be presented at Limeville United Methodist Church (UMC) on Saturday, Sept. 10, from 4 to 6 p.m.

All events will take place outdoors in a grassy area behind the church, and there will be no charge for any of the activities. All children in attendance must be accompanied by an adult.

"We will have a bounce house, a barrel train ride, carnival-type games, and (congregation members) will present a puppet show at 4:30 and 5:30 p.m.," said Rachael Woodring, a member of the carnival's organizing committee. "Every kid will leave with a goodie bag." Information about the church and its services and outreach activities will be included in the bag.

Food items will also be offered. "Everyone will get a hot dog, a baked good, a snow cone, popcorn and cotton candy," Woodring explained, noting that additional quantities of food can be purchased.

The carnival is just one community outreach offered by Limeville UMC. It also holds an annual Christmas program for families and an Easter egg hunt.

Most recently, the church revitalized Limeville Christian Preschool, which will be in session beginning on Tuesday, Sept. 6, and opened Limeville's Blessings, a store that offers free clothing, hygiene products, basic household items and children's toys to people in need.

Limeville's Blessings is open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to noon and the first Saturday of each month from noon to 4 p.m. The store is also open by appointment.

"We just hit our one-month mark; it's going really well," reported Woodring. "I am there every Thursday, and for the past three weeks, five to eight families (have visited). On (a recent) Saturday, we had 10 families. We had some moms looking for back-to-school (items) and a lot of young families that are struggling."

Woodring hopes to have the store open every Saturday depending on the number of volunteers. Updates will be posted at http://www.facebook.com/LimevillesBlessingsStore.

Beginning on Monday, Sept. 12, the church will offer a weekly children's program from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Yoga will be offered for adults at the same time.

The Sunday service at Limeville UMC is held at 10:15 a.m. Sunday school is offered prior to the service at 9 a.m. All services are livestreamed on Facebook.

Limeville UMC is located at 5783 Limeville Road, Gap. For more information about the church, call 717-442-4010 or visit http://www.facebook.com/LimevilleUMC or http://www.limevillechurch.org.
