Labor Day Auction planned

Hospice & Community Care's Labor Day Auction will be held at the Solanco Fairgrounds, 101 Park Ave., Quarryville, on Saturday, Sept. 2, and Monday, Sept. 4, beginning at 7:30 a.m. The Labor Day Auction, presented by Rodgers & Associates, is free to attend, with proceeds benefiting patients and families receiving hospice and palliative care and grief support.

The event will feature a wide variety of new and used items up for bids, a furniture auction, used vehicles, sheds, an array of gift certificates and gift baskets, and six specialty auctions. A high-end auction on Sept. 4 will include vacations, fine jewelry, handyman services, once-in-a-lifetime experiences, and handcrafted items. A giveaway drawing will give ticket holders a chance to win a 2023 Ford Mustang. The event will also feature Amish-made food.

The specialty auctions on Sept. 2 will be Art, Day of Care and Tools. The Art Auction, sponsored by Evans Burial Vaults and Crematorium, has original paintings from well-known local artists, as well as the debut of the 2023 Memorial Garden Ornament created by Viocity Group, a family of companies. At the Day of Care Auction, attendees may purchase a day of care for one patient sponsored by Engle Printing & Publishing Co., Inc. The Tool Auction, sponsored by WIOV, 96.1 SOX, Warm 103.3, and NewsTalk 93.9, will feature new and used power and manual tools donated by local construction companies and individuals.

The Sept. 4 specialty auctions will be Sports Memorabilia, a dedicated Quilt Auction and a Plant Auction. The Sports Auction, sponsored by Blue Ridge Communications, will showcase items from regional, state, and national icons with guest auctioneer and "Sports Talk" host Eric May. A specialty Quilt Auction will include hand-quilted pieces from the Amish, quilters' groups, and volunteers, as well as gently used quilts in all sizes. The Plant Auction, sponsored by The Gilded Lily, will feature hundreds of plants donated by many local greenhouses and florists.

Hospice & Community Care has been partnering with local businesses, individuals, the Amish community, and volunteers to grow this event over the past 39 years. This year, there are more than 80 sponsors. All proceeds from the Labor Day Auction directly benefit patients and families receiving hospice and palliative care, as well as grief support through the Pathways Center for Grief & Loss. In 2022, the Labor Day Auction raised more than $970,000.
