Lacrosse Day will benefit scholarship

On Saturday, May 11, the athletic field at Elizabethtown Area High School (EAHS), 600 E. High St., will be the site of lots of lacrosse when the third annual Colby Hall Lacrosse Day takes place. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will feature U10, U12 and U14 games as well as a final game pitting the high school boys' team against high-school alumni.

The event provides an opportunity showcase the sport of lacrosse and raise funds for the Colby Hall Memorial Scholarship, a $1,000 award given to a senior lacrosse player to help the student pursue educational goals.

A senior at EAHS, Colby Hall died in a car crash in October 2021. In 2022, his parents, Don and Melanie Hall of Elizabethtown, organized the first Lacrosse Day in honor of their son.

"He loved lacrosse and played for 10 years," Melanie said, noting that all games played at the event will be in memory of Colby. Colby attended the Lancaster County Career and Technology Center in Mount Joy and was in the welding program. Along with playing lacrosse for EAHS, he played with the Lebanon Valley Lacrosse Club.

After Colby's accident, the Halls decided to bring back a lacrosse event held for years in Elizabethtown. They reestablished Lacrosse Day to keep their son's memory alive and help others through the scholarship.

Sponsors of Lacrosse Day include White Family Dental, Agency 1, Tyson Fence Co., Garden State Tile and Alan Hostetler Insurance.

Along with lacrosse games, the event will feature an auction of items, including two Green Day concert tickets donated by WINK 104 and six Hersheypark tickets. Food will be available for sale, including pulled pork, macaroni and cheese, hot dogs and dessert. Event T-shirts will be for sale prior to the Lacrosse Day as well as at the event.

Melanie hopes people will come out to enjoy the day, win items in the auction, have fun and remember Colby.

"If you knew Colby, would like to support the event or cheer the boys on, please consider attending," she said. "It's also a good opportunity to see action-packed lacrosse games, especially the high school vs. alumni game."
