Lancaster COB Posts Christmas Eve Service

Lancaster Church of the Brethren, 1601 Sunset Ave., Lancaster, will host a candlelight Christmas Eve service on Friday, Dec. 24, at 6:30 p.m. Margaret Marsch will provide an extended organ prelude beginning at 6 p.m. The program also will be livestreamed on the church's YouTube page.

The service will include a retelling of the Christmas story through Bible readings; singing of hymns and carols; music from the Chancel Choir, children, soloists, and instrumentalists; and a meditation from pastor Misty Wintsch, titled "This Is About That." The service will conclude with traditional candle lighting to celebrate the coming of the Light into the world.

The Chancel Choir, under the direction of Matthew P. Fritz, will sing four selections: "Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus," arranged by Gawthrop; "Rejoice, All Ye Daughters" from "Season of Wonders" by Martin; "There Shall a Star Come Out of Jacob" by Mendelssohn; and "Walk in Light" by Marrolli. Children and the choir will collaborate on "One Night in Bethlehem" by Lawrence and Loretto and arranged by Fritz.

Soloists will include Jenn and Brooke Smith on "What Child Shall Come?" by Liebergen; Lisa Miley on "Be Born in Me" by Herms and Nordeman; and Matt Kramer in "O, Holy Night." The instrumentalists will be Marsch on the organ and Claire Fritz on the violin.

In accordance with CDC guidelines, the church encourages the wearing of face masks for all activities in the church building.
