LancasterHistory Posts Virtual Programs

LancasterHistory has planned several events for February. Unless otherwise noted, readers may register at http://www.lancasterhistory.org/events.

The 17th annual Valentine's Stay-at-Home Gala will take place virtually on Saturday, Feb. 13, at 7 p.m. This yearly fundraising event benefits LancasterHistory's education and public programs.

Multiple ticket levels are available with different benefits. All ticket holders will receive a gift bag that includes a long-sleeve, unisex LancasterHistory Valentine's Gala T-shirt designed by FoxDuck, Wheatland chocolates from Miesse Candies, and Support Local History stickers.

Gift bag pickup will be available at LancasterHistory, 230 N. President Ave., on Feb. 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Details for viewing the virtual event will be sent to registrants' email inboxes prior to the event.

Presidents Day virtual tours of Wheatland will be livestreamed via Zoom on Monday, Feb. 15, at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. A costumed tour guide will lead viewers through the mansion and share the history of the home as well as the public and private life of President Buchanan. During the tour, the guide will have a brief, first-person living history conversation with re-enactors portraying the 15th president and his close friend and guest Cornelia Van Ness Roosevelt of Oyster Bay, N.Y. There will be a question-and-answer time with the re-enactors. After the conversation, the guide will continue the tour. The entire program should last approximately 45 minutes to an hour.

There is a fee for each connection. Upon successful registration, an email with the Zoom link will be sent.

LancasterHistory will welcome journalist Connor Towne O'Neill on Thursday, Feb. 18, at 7 p.m. for a virtual discussion of his book, "Down Along With That Devil's Bones: A Reckoning with Monuments, Memory, and the Legacy of White Supremacy." The virtual lecture is free and open to the public.

Hourlong, virtual tours of President James Buchanan's Wheatland will be available on Thursdays and Saturdays at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. beginning on Thursday, Feb. 4. A tour guide will lead viewers, in real time, through both floors of the mansion. Attendees will learn about James Buchanan, his family, and his presidency during one of the most fraught eras of American history. Tours are facilitated through Zoom. Tickets are available at http://www.lancasterhistory.org/tickets.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, LancasterHistory's indoor facilities and in-person programs will remain closed to the public through at least Friday, April 30. For more information, readers may visit http://www.lancasterhistory.org/updates.
