The Friends of the Tanger Arboretum will host a Spring Seasonal Gathering Tour at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 6. The tour will be led by Jeff Hazlett, horticulturalist and Friends vice president. Attendees will explore the grounds of the Tanger Arboretum to learn about flowering trees, the pollinator gardens, and the two Pennsylvania Champion trees that call the Arboretum home. There is a fee to participate, with complimentary admission for Friends of the Tanger Arboretum. Space is limited.

Arboretum Discovery Day will take place on Saturday, May 13, at 10 a.m. in the Tanger Arboretum. The family-friendly nature adventure will offer children and their families an opportunity to explore the Wheatland kitchen garden and learn about what was grown in a garden during James Buchanan's time, visit the koi pond, and do a craft. The program is designed for children age 12 and under. The registration fee covers supplies.

"The President and the Secretary: The Troubled Partnership of James K. Polk and James Buchanan" will be presented by Michael David Cohen, research professor at American University, on Thursday, May 18. A reception will begin at 5 p.m., followed by the main program at 5:30 p.m. The program will discuss how James Buchanan came to join President James K. Polk's cabinet and how the two cooperated and clashed on various issues. The program will also be offered virtually via Zoom. The program is free, but registration is required due to capacity restrictions and to receive the Zoom link.

The Friends of the Tanger Arboretum will host a Nature Series program titled "Container Gardening" on Saturday, May 20, at 10 a.m. Christine Abel will share tips for container gardening and how to create seasonal containers and patio pots. She will also show attendees how to create a patio pot for summer that will last all season until the frost comes, and display and discuss new or little-known plants that are now on the market. There is a fee, with Friends of the Tanger Arboretum members receiving complimentary admission. Space is limited, and advance registration is recommended.

Lancaster County Tall Clocks will be held on May 20 at 2 p.m. This Collections Up Close tour will highlight LancasterHistory's exhibitions to discuss local clock-making traditions; the manufacture of dials, movements, and cases; and the exceptional level of craftmanship and technological development attained by Lancaster County clockmakers. There is an admission fee, with free admission for LancasterHistory members. Space is limited, and advance registration is recommended.
