Library announces underwear collection

Strasburg-Heisler Library, 143 Precision Ave., Strasburg, is partnering with L-S Together in collecting new underwear for school-age kids throughout February and March. Some of the underwear will be distributed to local organizations in the Lampeter-Strasburg community that serve children and families, and some will be given to schools to have on hand in case students need them.

Children may need clean underwear at school for a variety of reasons, including accidents, illness, or the inability to wash clothes regularly. The availability of this piece of clothing may provide relief from embarrassment and keep students in the classroom so they can focus on learning.

The Drop Your Drawers campaign began in Campbell County Public Library in Kentucky when a librarian learned from a school nurse the number of pairs of underwear that were being given to students. The school's supply typically ran out midyear, prompting school nurses to purchase underwear themselves for their students.

This is the sixth year for the Drop Your Drawers campaign at Strasburg-Heisler Library. A variety of sizes are needed for children through grade 12. New, packaged underwear can be dropped off at the library during regular hours.
