The Friends of the Hershey Public Library will hold their 41st annual book sale on Saturday, Aug. 6, to Tuesday, Aug. 9, at the Hershey Public Library, 701 Cocoa Ave., Hershey.

A preview night will be held on Friday, Aug. 5, from 6 to 8 p.m. for Friends members, offering an opportunity to purchase books before the sale opens to the public. Attendees can register as a member at the preview night or at https://friendsofhersheypubliclibrary.wildapricot.org. Five levels of membership are available, and joining at the lowest level entitles a person to purchase up to 20 books on Aug. 5. Anyone who upgrades beyond this level may purchase up to 40 books.

The book sale will be open on Aug. 6 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Sunday, Aug. 7, from 1 to 5 p.m.; Monday, Aug. 8, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Aug. 9 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Library services will be unavailable on Aug. 7; the library will only be open for the book sale.

The sale will offer books for people of all ages, graphic novels, DVDs, music CDs, audiobook CDs, magazines, puzzles, and games. Books will be sorted by general topics, such as cookbooks, romance, mystery, science fiction and fantasy, foreign language, art, and children's. There will also be a section of more valuable books with special pricing.

The Friends of the Hershey Public Library, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, was founded in 1963 by a small group of supporters of the library. The Friends raise funds primarily through memberships and the annual book sale to support adult, teen, and children's programs, adult reading groups, distinguished author visits, Summer Reading Programs, special library collections, and physical improvements. Over the last four decades, the Friends group has raised over $1 million to support the Hershey Public Library. The Friends are assisted in holding the book sale by volunteers who assist at the sale, library staff members, and the Hershey High School football team, which transports boxes of books from the library's basement.

Anyone who would like to volunteer at the book sale or who has questions about the sale may email hersheylibraryfriends@gmail.com.
