Library Plans Activities

Lititz Public Library, 651 Kissel Hill Road, Lititz, will offer a variety of events to the community. Preregistration is not required for most programs. For more details and registration, contact the library at 717-626-2255 or register@lititzlibrary.org or visit http://www.lititzlibrary.org.

The library will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 24, and Friday, Nov. 25, for the Thanksgiving holiday. The library will also be closed on Wednesday, Nov. 30, for staff development.

The library will sponsor a Mitten Tree from Monday, Nov. 14, through Saturday, Dec. 10. Visitors are encouraged to donate new and unwrapped scarves, hats, gloves, mittens, socks, masks, and umbrellas.

From Nov. 14 to Dec. 10, the library will also collect items for the Lititz Warwick Community Chest Christmas baskets. Patrons may stop by the library and choose a leaf from the Giving Tree and return with the item noted on the leaf to be included in a Christmas basket.

Backyard Story Times for families will be offered on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. and on Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. The program will be canceled if it rains. Attendees should bring chairs or a blanket.

The library offers several ongoing programs. Morning Yoga will take place at 9 a.m. on Fridays, except Nov. 25. Tai Chi Easy will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 1. Astronomy Enthusiasts of Lancaster County will meet at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 2. The Knitting Club, for knitters and crocheters, will gather from 10 a.m. to noon on Mondays, Nov. 7 and 21, and at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 29. The Painting Club will meet at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesdays, Nov. 9 and 23. The Great Decisions Discussion Group will gather at 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 9 to discuss foreign affairs. Tech Talk at the Library will meet on Thursday, Nov. 10, to discuss "All About Flipster" at 5 p.m.

Ongoing programs will continue with a meeting of the Jane Austen Society on Tuesday, Nov. 15, at 6:30 p.m. to enjoy a cup of tea and all things Austen. BYOB - Bring Your Own Book (Club) will meet on Thursday, Nov. 17, at 2 p.m. to share what members are currently reading. The Writing Club will meet on Monday, Nov. 21, at 1 p.m.

The Lititz Garden Club will discuss "Creating Year-Round Interest with Native Perennials" on Thursday, Nov. 3, at 6:30 p.m. No registration is needed.

A Local Author Expo will take place on Saturday, Nov. 5, from 1 to 3 p.m. Local authors will display and sell copies of their books and talk to attendees about their experiences as authors. A wide range of books for people of all ages and interests will be highlighted. Free library swag and refreshments will be provided.

The Baked Books Book Club will meet at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 8. Participants will read "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Society" and taste potato peel pie. To register, contact Diane at dguscott@lititzlibrary.org.

A movie matinee will feature "The Music Man" on Thursday, Nov. 10, at 2 p.m. Popcorn and a drink will be provided. Registration will open on Thursday, Oct. 27.

The Lititz Historical Foundation will hold its annual meeting on Saturday, Nov. 12, at 1:30 p.m. The meeting will feature "The History of Powwow" with Robert Phoenix. Online registration is required and will open on Friday, Oct. 28.

A Write-In for National Novel Writing Month will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19. Attendees will spend the day writing with fellow storytellers. Participants should bring all their own materials to spend the day in the library's Community Room or among the stacks of books. Tables, chairs, free Wi-Fi, and refreshments will be provided. There will also be some library and writing swag as well as fun prize giveaways. Online registration will begin Nov. 5.

The Lititz Art Association will meet at 6 p.m. on Nov. 29. No registration is needed.

Individual counseling sessions on Medicare will be offered on Mondays, Nov. 14 to 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. They are open to individuals who are new to Medicare or soon will be. To register for an appointment, contact the Lancaster County Office of Aging at 717-299-7979 or aging@co.lancaster.pa.us.

Cruise Into Kindergarten will meet on Nov. 21 at 6:30 p.m. The program is geared to children ages 3 to 6 and is based on the national Every Child Ready to Read program. After hearing a story, children and caregivers will visit stations intended to help with skills that children need to start school.

Three-Week Parachute Play, for children ages 3 to 5, will be offered at 9:30 or 10:30 a.m. on Mondays, Nov. 28 to Dec. 12, and Tuesdays, Nov. 29 to Dec. 13. Class size is limited, and online registration will begin on Nov. 14.

The Lititz Public Library's Holiday StoryWalk title is "Click, Clack, Ho! Ho! Ho!" by Doreen Cronin. The StoryWalk begins to the right of the library entrance and moves counterclockwise around the library and combines taking a walk and reading a book.
