Library plans activities

Milanof-Schock Library, 1184 Anderson Ferry Road, Mount Joy, will offer a variety of programming. All programs are free, unless stated otherwise, and require preregistration. For more information and to register, visit http://www.mslibrary.org or call 717-653-1510.

The library will close at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 22, and will be closed on Thanksgiving, Thursday, Nov. 23.

The Friends of Milanof-Schock Library will hold their traditional Election Day bake sale at the library on Tuesday, Nov. 7, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. or until supplies are depleted. Proceeds will benefit the library.

Community members may honor a veteran by posting his or her information in the library. People may visit the library to complete an Honor Card by Wednesday, Nov. 8, to have the information displayed in the library on Veterans Day, Saturday, Nov. 11. A library card is not needed to honor a veteran.

The Central Pennsylvania Blood Bank will hold a blood drive at the library on Thursday, Nov. 16, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Scheduled appointments are strongly suggested. Walk-ins are welcome; however, donors with appointments will be served first. A form of identification is required. Milanof-Schock Library will participate in the ExtraGive on Friday, Nov. 17. Community members are invited to make a donation to the library on this day by visiting http://www.extragive.org between midnight and 11:59 p.m.

Santa will visit the library on Saturday, Nov. 25, from 1 to 3 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 9, from 10 a.m. to noon. Each family will receive a complimentary photo with Santa and a goodie bag. The Friends of Milanof-Schock Library will also offer a make-and-take craft. No registration or library card is needed. This activity is available through the support of the Mount Joy Chamber of Commerce.

Gently used books and media can be donated to the self-service shed behind the library on Mondays through Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon.

Programs for children and teens include Fun Fort Friday for families on Nov. 10 from 5 to 6 p.m.; Adventures with Baby on Monday, Nov. 13, at 10:30 a.m. for children ages 6 months to 2 years; Super Science, for children age 3 and up, on Tuesday, Nov. 14, at 10:30 a.m.; Lego Challenge on Nov. 14 at 6 p.m.; and Fun Family Bingo on Tuesday, Nov. 21, at 6 p.m.

The Youth Fall Reading Program will continue until Nov. 25. Reading forms are available at the library's front desk.

Family Story Time will be held on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. Story times will not be held on Nov. 22 and 23. On Nov. 1 and 2, a retired teacher will help children learn about wind. On Nov. 8 and 9, Chris Silvestri from Members 1st Credit Union in Mount Joy and Miss Jan will teach participants about money.

Several activities have been planned especially for homeschoolers age 7 and up. Homeschool Spanish Class will be offered at 1:30 p.m. on Thursdays from Nov. 9 to Dec. 21, with no class on Nov. 23. Homeschool Art Class will be available on Nov. 21 at 10:30 a.m. Homeschool STEM/History Mystery will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 28, at 10:30 a.m.

Teen Chill & Draw with Hannah will be held on Nov. 11 at 1 p.m. for teens who like to draw or want to learn. The library will provide supplies, but teens may also bring their own.

Celebrate Thanksgiving Story Time, featuring themed stories and songs as well as a holiday craft, will be held on Nov 22 at 10:30 a.m.

The library will host Charlie Brown Thanksgiving on Nov. 25 at 9:30 a.m. Attendees may enjoy a Thanksgiving meal like Snoopy served his friends, featuring toast, popcorn and jellybeans, and watch "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving."

Teen D&D will meet on Nov. 25 from 1 to 4 p.m. The group has room for one or two more players.

Activities for adults will include Adult Game Night on Wednesday, Nov. 1, at 5 p.m.; Quilt Study on Nov. 8 at 12:30 p.m.; Closely Knit, for knitters and crocheters, on Mondays, Nov. 13 and 27, at 1 p.m., with no registration necessary; book bingo on Wednesday, Nov. 15, at 2 p.m.; Easy Writer Club, for writers of all levels, on Nov. 15 at 6:30 p.m., with no registration required; Joyful Stitchers Cross-Stitch Club, for people of all skill levels, on Saturday, Nov. 18, from 9:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.; Make-It Monday - Make a Calendar with Kathy B., for people age 14 and up, on Nov. 27 at 6 p.m.; and Book Discussion Group - Lit Lovers, focusing on "The Flat Share" by Beth O'Leary, on Nov. 28 at 6:30 p.m.

Jigsaw Puzzle Showdown will be held on Saturday, Nov. 4, from 1 to 3 p.m. Teams of up to four people will be given an identical 500-piece puzzle to complete. The first team to do so will win a prize.

The Friends of Milanof-Schock Library will hold a meeting on Nov. 13 at 6 p.m. New members are welcome.

The library will hold a board meeting on Thursday, Nov. 16, at 6:30 p.m. The meeting is open to the community.
