Library posts February programs

Milanof-Schock Library, 1184 Anderson Ferry Road, Mount Joy, will offer a variety of programming. All programs are free, unless stated otherwise, and require preregistration. For more information and to register, visit http://www.mslibrary.org or call 717-653-1510.

The library will be closed on Monday, Feb. 17.

A Celebrate Seuss event will take place on Friday, Feb. 28. Times will be staggered, and families may sign up for a start time when they purchase tickets. The event will include games, activities, prizes, a goodie bag for each child, and an opportunity to meet characters from Dr. Seuss' books. Each person will also receive a giveaway drawing ticket. Event tickets must be purchased in advance, and they will be available at the front desk beginning Monday, Feb. 10.

Gently used books and media can be donated to the self-service shed behind the library on Mondays through Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon.

The library will offer the Cozy Up and Read Winter Reading Challenge from Saturday, Feb. 1, to Saturday, March 15. Families may pick up papers at the library and return the completed forms to receive a prize and enter a giveaway drawing. Children may enter the drawing more than once.

Programs for children and teens will include Family Story Times on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 10:30 a.m.; Super Science, for kids age 4 and up, on Tuesday, Feb. 4, at 10:30 a.m.; Fun Fort Friday for families on Feb. 14 from 5 to 6 p.m.; Teen Chill & Draw with Hanna on Saturday, Feb. 8, at 1 p.m.; Adventures with Baby on Feb. 10 at 10:30 a.m. for children ages 6 months to 2 years; Lego Challenge on Tuesday, Feb. 11, at 6 p.m.; and Fun Family Bingo on Tuesday, Feb. 18, at 6 p.m.

A Feed the Birds activity will be offered on Feb. 1 at 1:30 p.m. Participants will make nature-friendly birdfeeders to feed the library's feathered friends.

Activities have been planned especially for homeschoolers age 7 and up. Each program will be offered twice, with the same topic discussed at both sessions. The programs will include Homeschool Art Class on Thursday, Feb. 6, at 1:30 p.m. and Feb. 11 at 10:30 a.m.; Homeschool STEM on Thursday, Feb. 13, at 1:30 p.m. and Feb. 18 at 10:30 a.m.; and Homeschool History Mystery on Thursday, Feb. 20, at 1:30 p.m. and Tuesday, Feb. 25, at 10:30 a.m.

The library will show the family-friendly movie "Tangled" on Saturday, Feb. 15, at 1:30 p.m. Free popcorn will be provided.

Teen D&D will be held on Saturday, Feb. 22, at 1 p.m. The group is currently full, but anyone who would like to participate in the future may contact Jan Betty at jbetty@mslibrary.org.

Reading the World will be offered on Thursday, Feb. 27, at 6 p.m. The program will fairy tales from around the world through stories, games, music, and dances.

Activities for adults will include Adult Game Night on Wednesdays, Feb. 5 and 19, at 5 p.m.; Closely Knit, for knitters and crocheters, on Mondays, Feb. 10 and 24, at 1 p.m., with no registration necessary; Joyful Stitchers Cross-Stitch Club, for people of all skill levels, on Feb. 15 from 9:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.; and Book Discussion Group - Lit Lovers on Feb. 25 at 6:30 p.m.

The library will host Understanding Alzheimer's and Dementia on Feb. 8 from 10 to 11 a.m. Stacy Reed, a Penn State Extension educator working in partnership with the Alzheimer's Association, will explain the differences between Alzheimer's disease and dementia. Topics will also include the stages of these conditions, risk factors, research, and FDA-approved treatments. There will be a question-and-answer time. Participants do not need a library card to attend.

The Friends of the Library will meet on Feb. 10 at 6:30 p.m.

Adults are invited to attend a showing of the movie "Love Again" on Wednesday, Feb. 12, at 1:30 p.m. Popcorn will be provided free of charge.

Thrivent will present a College Planning Strategies Workshop on Feb. 12 at 6:30 p.m. Attendees will learn how academics, admissions, and financial strategies can work together to help students save money and avoid excessive student debt.

Easy Writer Club, for writers of all levels, will meet on Feb. 19 at 6:30 p.m. No registration is required.

The library board will meet on Feb. 20 at 6:30 p.m.
