Library Posts January Activities

Adamstown Area Library, 110 W. Market St., Adamstown, will offer a variety of in-person and virtual programs for people of all ages. To register or view more details, visit http://www.adamstownarealibrary.org/events. The library will be closed on Saturday, Dec. 31, and Monday, Jan. 2.

Library patrons may pick up American Girl bags on Tuesday, Jan. 3, and Lego activity bags on Monday, Jan. 9. Materials will be available in the library foyer while supplies last. Patrons should take one bag per family. The activities are geared for children ages 5 to 12.

Story time programs will include "Budding Bookworms" Preschool Story Time on Wednesdays at 10 and 11 a.m. for children ages 3 to 6, "Twinkling Stars" Baby Story Time on Thursdays at 10 a.m., and "The Young and the Restless" Toddler Time on Thursdays at 11 a.m. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Young At Heart, for people age 60 and up, will be sponsored by REAL Life Community Services on Wednesdays, Jan. 4 and 18, from 9 to 11 a.m. For details, call 717-336-7797 or visit http://www.reallcs.org.

Tech Q & A, offering one-to-one help with devices, will be offered on Jan. 4 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Technology help and software training is also available at other times by appointment.

Puzzle Palooza will be held every Friday in January from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Different puzzles will be on the tables every week, and people of all ages may help put them together.

Other activities will include Drop-In STEAM on Monday, Jan. 9, from 2 to 5 p.m., with an adult required to accompany children under age 8; the Genealogy Group on Tuesday, Jan. 10, at 6:30 p.m. for adults and older students; Daytime Discoverers: 4-H and Clover Buds on Thursday, Jan. 12, at 1 p.m.; and Almost Perfect Crimes on Tuesday, Jan. 17, at 6:30 p.m. via Zoom for teens and adults.

Adults and older teens are invited to participate in How to Make a Macrame Plant Hanger on Jan. 12 at 3 p.m. All supplies and instruction will be provided.

Teens may pick up the materials to make a beaded snowflake ornament on Monday, Jan. 16, while supplies last.

The library will host a marathon reading of "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone" on Jan. 16. Attendees may drop by between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m.

A Stuffed Animal Sleepover is planned for Friday, Jan. 20. Children may drop off their animals at the library any day from Jan. 16 to 20 and pick them up on Saturday, Jan. 21, or the following week. Pictures of the animals' antics will be posted on Facebook.

The Lancaster County Department of Parks and Recreation will present Animals in Winter on Monday, Jan. 23, at 3 p.m. This program is for families.

A Block Party will take place on Monday, Jan. 30, from 10 to 11 a.m. This is a free play session for children age 2 and up.

Winter Reading Bingo will be available through Tuesday, Jan. 31, for readers age 18 and older. Those who wish to participate may pick up a bingo card at the library.

The Reading Royals Winter Reading Challenge will continue through Saturday, Feb. 25. Children ages 5 to 15 should read 20 minutes per day for 20 days to receive a free kid's ticket to the Reading Royals game on Sunday, March 5. Any adult tickets purchased will result in a donation to the library.

Brighten Someone's Day Packets may be picked up at the library from Jan. 1 to Friday, March 31. Participants should return their colored pictures to the library for distribution to seniors.

MJWK (Miss Jess Wants to Know) will take place throughout the month. Teens may stop by the young adult book and teen graphic novel section of the library for the question of the month. This month's topic is "Social Media Showdown."

The Story Challenge will be available all month. Participants should read the story on the window next to the wheelchair ramp and tell a staff member at the circulation desk the answer to the question. Prizes will be awarded.

A Transportation I SPY Window Game will be featured on the library's window. Each week, patrons may look for a different set of items. Those who find all the items will receive a sticker.
