Library posts January activities

The library will offer several ongoing programs. These activities include Lititz Game Club for players age 10 and older on Wednesdays, Jan. 3 and 17, at 4:30 p.m.; Astronomy Enthusiasts of Lancaster County on Jan. 3 at 6 p.m.; Lititz Garden Club on Thursday, Jan. 4, at 6:30 p.m.; Painting Club on Wednesdays, Jan. 10 and 24, at 12:30 p.m.; Great Decisions Discussion Group on Jan. 10 at 6:30 p.m.; Knitting Club on Monday, Jan. 15, at 10 a.m. and Tuesday, Jan. 30, at 6 p.m.; Writing Club on Jan. 15 at 1 p.m.; Jane Austen Society on Tuesday, Jan. 16, at 6:30 p.m.; Genealogy Club on Jan. 17 at 6:30 p.m.; Newcomers and Neighbors Book Club on Thursday, Jan. 18, at 1 p.m.; Literary Travelers Book Club on Friday, Jan. 26, at 10 a.m.; and Lititz Art Association on Jan. 30, at 6 p.m.

Members of the Blanketeers will gather to make blankets of various kinds for Project Linus on Jan. 16 at 2 p.m.

Journaling for Relaxation will be presented on Thursday, Jan. 11, at 6 p.m. Topics will include different types of journals; journaling techniques and resources; ways to decorate and customize a journal; and benefits of journaling.

The Lititz Historical Foundation will host a presentation and book signing on Saturday, Jan. 13, at 1:30 p.m. highlighting "Souls of Iron: A Remarkable Story of an Industrial Family Dynasty Spanning over 150 Years" by Jim Polczynski. The book tells the story of the Robert Coleman family, whose iron mining and iron manufacturing activities in central Pennsylvania began before the Revolutionary War and lasted until shortly after World War I.

The library will host The Moravian Star: History and Meaning on Jan. 18 at 6 p.m. Tom Wentzel will speak about the biblical symbolism of the Moravian star, the Moravians' use of the star design as a symbol in their communities worldwide, the first star notations in early Moravian diaries and the Herrnhuter Star factory. Wentzel is a longtime member of the Lititz Moravian Congregation, where he serves on the Museum and Archives Committee and is also a tour guide for historic Church Square tours. Online registration will begin on Jan. 4.

A Look at Libraries: Libraries Through the Ages will be held on Monday, Jan. 22, at 6:30 p.m. The program will explore the changing roles of libraries over time. This event will kick off a yearlong series on libraries as idea, place, and function.

The Ragtime Willi Band will perform in concert at the library on Thursday, Jan. 25, at 6:30 p.m. The band plays a mix of folk songs, bluegrass tunes, rock classics played acoustically, and originals, all in a style the band calls funky folk music. Online registration will begin Jan. 11.

The library's winter StoryWalk is "Winter Dance" by Marion Dane Bauer. The StoryWalk begins to the right of the library entrance and moves counterclockwise around the library.

During the Paws to Read program on Saturdays, Jan. 13 and 27, from 10 to 11:30 a.m., children can read stories to trained therapy dogs.

Yoga Story Times for children ages 3 to 5 will be offered on Jan. 10, 17 and 24 at 6 p.m. Space is limited, and participants are asked to attend all three weeks. Children will attend independently.

Cruise Into Kindergarten will meet on Jan. 15 at 6:30 p.m. Cruise Into Kindergarten is geared to children ages 3 to 6 and is based on the national Every Child Ready to Read program. After hearing a story, children and caregivers will visit stations intended to help with skills that children need to start school.

Winter Indoor Story Times will run from Jan. 22 through Thursday, March 21. Story times will be offered for children in age groups ranging from 6 months to 5 years. Each story time will last 30 minutes and will include songs, stories, nursery rhymes and playtime. Families may register online beginning Monday, Jan. 8, at 9 a.m.

Family Story Times, for children of all ages with a caregiver, are scheduled for Wednesdays, Feb. 7 to 28, at 6 p.m. Online registration will begin Jan. 24 at 9 a.m.
