Library posts June activities

Lititz Public Library, 651 Kissel Hill Road, Lititz, will offer a variety of activities to the community. For more details and registration, contact the library at 717-626-2255 or visit http://www.lititzlibrary.org.

The library will celebrate its 25th birthday on Saturday, June 1, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aaron's Books' new Book Bus will be on-site. Additional activities will include face painting from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., a bounce house from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Magic Andrew making balloon animals from noon to 2 p.m., and a performance by the Lititz Community Band from 2 to 3 p.m. The Isabella's ice cream, Dutch Country Hand-Rolled Soft Pretzels, and Mad Dash Grilled Cheese food trucks will be on-site.

The Summer Reading Program, themed "Adventure Begins at the Library," will take place from Saturday, June 1, to Saturday, Aug. 10. To obtain a reading log for children birth to age 19 or the Summer Reading Passport Challenge for adults, visit the aforementioned website or stop by the library. Prizes will be awarded.

The library will offer several ongoing programs. These activities include Knitting Club, for knitters and crocheters, on Mondays, June 3 and 17, at 10 a.m. and Tuesday, June 25, at 6 p.m.; Beginner Tai Chi Easy on Tuesday, June 4, at 6:30 p.m.; Lititz Game Club, for players age 10 and older, on Wednesdays, June 5 and 19, at 4:30 p.m.; Astronomy Enthusiasts of Lancaster County on June 5 at 6 p.m.; Painting Club on Wednesdays, June 12 and 26, at 12:30 p.m.; Great Decisions Discussion Group on June 12 at 6:30 p.m.; Writing Club on June 17 at 1 p.m.; Jane Austen Society on Tuesday, June 18, at 6:30 p.m.; and Lititz Art Association on June 25 at 6 p.m.

Members of the Blanketeers will gather to make blankets of various kinds for Project Linus on June 4 and 18 at 2 p.m.

In celebration of the library's 25th birthday, a birthday cake baking contest will be held on Thursday, June 13, from 6 to 7 p.m. Prior to the event, competitors will bake two decorated birthday cakes that are the same. On the night of the contest, bakers should cut their cakes into bite-size pieces and bring them to the library along with copies of the recipe at 5:30 p.m. Patrons will taste the cakes and vote to determine the winner. The taste and decoration of the cakes will be judged separately. Prizes will be awarded. Registration is required to be a baker but not to taste the cakes and vote.

The Lancaster-based Bravura Brass quintet will present a concert on Thursday, June 20, at 6:30 p.m. in the library's backyard. Attendees should bring a blanket or chairs. In the event of rain, the program will be held in the library's community room, and only those who registered may attend.

The Art of Your Energy Meditation Group will meet on June 26 at 6:30 p.m. Attendees will learn to meditate; the program is suitable for people with any level of experience with meditation, including beginners.

A Look at Libraries: Libraries in Pop Culture will take place on Thursday, June 27, at 6:30 p.m. The program will examine how libraries have been depicted in books, movies, and television and how those depictions have informed what people expect or want from their libraries.

The BYOB Book Club will meet on June 27 at 2 p.m. Attendees should bring a book they are currently reading.

WellSpan and the American Heart Association will offer blood pressure screenings free of charge along with heart health information on June 27 from 1 to 3 p.m. No registration is needed.

Accessible Yoga with Black Cat Yoga will take place on Friday, June 28, at 10 a.m. People of all abilities are welcome.

Mark DeRose will present a program at the library on Monday, June 10, at 1:30 p.m. It will feature songs, artwork, videos, and more geared for children in kindergarten through sixth grade.

Book Buddies will be offered on Tuesdays, June 11 to July 16, at 10 a.m. Attendees will hear a story, read with a buddy, and make a craft.

The Teen SummerZine program will offer youths ages 12 to 19 an opportunity to learn from professionals and create a print magazine together. Sessions will take place on select Tuesdays from 4 to 5:30 p.m., and participants may attend in person or via livestream on Zoom. The professionals to be featured are Jamie Beth Cohen, a poet, journalist, and author of contemporary young adult fiction, on June 11 and 25; Gene Beretta, an author and illustrator of fiction and nonfiction, on July 9 and 23; and Adam Perry, an author and magician, on Aug. 6 and 20. Tammie Hessen will present a drum program on June 13 at 1 p.m. Hessen is a Lancaster-based drummer who has been studying in the East African hand drum tradition of djembe. This program is geared for kids ages 3 to 12.

During the Paws to Read program on June 13 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and June 27 from 10 to 11:30 a.m., children may read stories to trained therapy dogs.

Lititz Farmers Market Story Times will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursdays, June 13, July 11, and Aug. 8, in Lititz Springs Park.

The Lititz VFW will offer a Flag Day Story Time for kids age 3 and up on Friday, June 14, at 10 a.m.

Wacky Wednesday: Jungle Adventure will take place on June 19 at 1 p.m. The event will include a story, crafts, games, and STEM activities for kids of all ages.

Circus in a Box with Cissy and The Man will be presented on June 20 at 10 a.m. A juggler and clown duo will perform; the program is geared for kids ages 3 to 12.

Children's author Martha Jaworowski will present Sports at First Sight on Friday, June 21, at 10 a.m.

Crystal Dull will lead a Teen Painting Class on June 25 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. for people age 12 to 18.

Ed Klein will provide instruction on the basics of cartooning in Cartooning Made Easy on June 26 at 10 a.m.

Family Stages will present "Jack and the Beanstalk" on June 28 at 1 p.m. The show is geared for children age 5 and up.

The library's summer StoryWalk is "Explorers of the Wild" by Cale Atkinson.
