Library posts June calendar

Milanof-Schock Library, 1184 Anderson Ferry Road, Mount Joy, will offer a variety of programming. All programs are free, unless stated otherwise, and require preregistration. For more information and to register, visit http://www.mslibrary.org or call 717-653-1510.

The library will start its summer hours in June. The library will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Mondays through Thursdays, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays, and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays.

Food trucks will return to the library on Thursdays, June 8 through Aug. 24, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and from 5 to 7 p.m. Check the library's website and social media pages for food truck names.

The library will not accept book donations from Tuesday, June 6, through Tuesday, July 4.

The annual Maker Fest will be held on Saturday, June 24, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., showcasing local makers. The event is free and open to the public and will be held rain or shine.

The library will kick off the Summer Reading Program, "All Together Now," on Saturday, June 3, from 9 a.m. to noon. Families are invited to come in for summer reading packets, which include an age-appropriate reading log and a complete schedule of events. Participants can be among the first to sign up for special summer programs at the library. Online event signups will be available starting Monday, June 5, and reading packets can be picked up during operating hours throughout the summer.

Teen 'Zine will offer teens an opportunity to work alongside three award-winning Pennsylvania authors. The authors will offer creative prompts and a real-time look at their writing process via Zoom. Jared Reck will be the featured author on Tuesdays, June 6 and 20, from 4 to 5:30 p.m. via Zoom.

A Lego Challenge for families will take place on June 6 at 6 p.m. Each participating family will be given a shoebox of Legos to create based on the evening's theme.

Several programs will be offered for younger children and families. Story Time and Clean Up the Crafts will be held on June 8 at 10:30 a.m. for families, and participants will use leftover craft supplies to create something following the story time. Adventures with Baby will be offered to children ages 6 months to 2 years at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 12. Family Story Time will be offered at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesdays, June 14 and 28.

Talewise Science Heroes - Saving the World Together, slated for 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 13, will feature an action-packed story where two unlikely heroes work together to save the planet from a super-polluting mastermind. The program will feature science experiments.

So You Want to be a ... is an interactive program for families that will feature a special guest. The program will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Thursdays, June 15 to 29.

Fort Friday will take place from 5 to 6 p.m. on June 16 while the library is closed. Participants should bring blankets and sheets, a flashlight, and a beverage. Clips will be provided to hang sheets or blankets to create forts. A snack will be provided.

Sidewalk Chalk Day will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Monday, June 19. Families are invited to decorate the library's front sidewalks with chalk art.

Art in the Park for children age 7 and older will offer an opportunity to create theme-inspired art based upon the works of a particular artist. The program will take place on June 19 at 1:30 p.m.

Family Book Bingo will take place on June 20 at 6 p.m. for people age 7 and older. The interactive bingo with themed rounds will offer books as prizes.

KooKoo's Cartoon Magic Show, an interactive comedy show, will be held on Wednesday, June 21, at 10:30 a.m. It is open to the entire family.

Paleontologists and educators Mike and Roberta Straka will be featured during Dinosaur Expedition Adventure at 1 p.m. on Monday, June 26. The program will include audience participation, magic, show-and-tell with real fossils and a mystery fossil game show.

Lunch Bunch will offer those age 7 and older an opportunity to bring lunch and a book they are reading and to meet a mystery guest. The program will begin at noon on Tuesday, June 27, and a snack will be provided.

Snorey Time will be held at 6 p.m. on June 27. The family program will include stories, a simple craft, and a light snack. Attendees are encouraged to wear their pajamas.

Wee Build Free Build will provide a variety of building sets for unstructured creative play on Friday, June 30, from 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Programs and clubs for adults will also be offered. Regular programs include Closely Knit for knitters and crocheters at 1 p.m. on June 12 and 26; a Friends of the Milanof-Schock Library meeting at 6 p.m. on June 12; Joyful Stitchers Cross-Stitch Club for people of all skill levels from 9:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. on Saturday, June 17; Easy Writer Club on June 21 at 6:30 p.m.; and Book Discussion Group - Lit Lovers at 6:30 p.m. on June 27.

Movie Matinee will offer a big-screen viewing of "A Man Called Otto" at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 7. The movie and popcorn are free.

Adult Book Bingo will be held at 2 p.m. on June 21. Winners will receive vouchers for books from the sale racks.

Pollinator Friendly Gardening will begin at 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 22. Participants will learn what kinds of plants attract pollinators.

Make-It Monday - "Tie Dye the Easy Way" will be held at 6 p.m. on June 26. Attendees age 16 and older will learn a simple tie-dye method using permanent markers and rubbing alcohol. Small bags will be provided, but attendees are welcome to bring extra canvas pieces like sneakers, tote bags, or baseball caps.
