Library posts May schedule

Lititz Public Library, 651 Kissel Hill Road, Lititz, will offer a variety of activities to the community. For more details and registration, contact the library at 717-626-2255 or visit http://www.lititzlibrary.org.

The library will be closed on Monday, May 27, for Memorial Day.

A community yard sale will take place on Saturday, May 11, from 7 a.m. to noon in the library's upper parking lot. More than 25 vendors will participate, and the event will also include a bake sale and a used jewelry sale.

The library will offer several ongoing programs. These activities include Lititz Game Club, for players age 10 and older, on Wednesdays, May 1 and 15, at 4:30 p.m.; Astronomy Enthusiasts of Lancaster County on May 1 at 6 p.m.; Lititz Garden Club on Thursday, May 2, at 6:30 p.m.; Knitting Club, for knitters and crocheters, on Mondays, May 6 and 20, at 10 a.m. and Tuesday, May 28, at 6 p.m.; Beginner Tai Chi Easy on Tuesday, May 7, at 6:30 p.m.; Painting Club on Wednesdays, May 8 and 22, at 12:30 p.m.; Great Decisions Discussion Group on May 8 at 6:30 p.m.; Writing Club on May 20 at 1 p.m.; Jane Austen Society on Tuesday, May 21, at 6:30 p.m.; Adult Coloring Club on May 28 at 2 p.m.; and Lititz Art Association on May 28 at 6 p.m.

Members of the Blanketeers will gather to make blankets of various kinds for Project Linus on May 7 and 21 at 2 p.m.

The Exploring Growing Together Discussion Forum will be offered on Thursdays, May 9 and 23, at 11 a.m. Books, articles, and videos are used to facilitate discussion.

Jamie O'Brien and the Launies will be present a concert indoors on Thursday, May 16, at 6:30 p.m. O'Brien hails from a London-Irish family, and he utilizes this background in his musical performances. The Launies were formed by O'Brien in 1997. The band's members play instruments such as the fiddle, mandolin, and guitar and also provide vocals. The songs in the group's repertoire originated in England and Ireland and reflect the music hall traditions of earlier times.

Mari Beckman will lead the Art of Your Energy Meditation Group on May 22 at 6:30 p.m. Attendees will learn to meditate; the program is suitable for people with any level of experience with meditation, including beginners. Beckman, from Manheim Township, is the author of "The Art of Your Energy."

An Adult Posy Party will take place on May 22 at 6 p.m. Lancaster Flower Co. will share tips for creating a flower arrangement, and attendees will make an arrangement to take home. Each participant should bring a vase and a pair of shears. The event is open to those age 18 and up. Space is limited to 15 people, and only one name per registration will be allowed.

A Look at Libraries: The Lititz Public Library - 1936 to the Present will be presented on May 23 at 6:30 p.m. The program will provide a quick look at the history of the library.

Accessible Yoga with Black Cat Yoga will take place on Friday, May 24, at 10 a.m. People of all abilities are welcome.

The BYOB Book Club will meet on Thursday, May 30, at 2 p.m. Attendees should bring a book they are currently reading.

The Harrisburg Mandolin Ensemble will perform in concert on May 30 at 6:30 p.m. The band's repertoire includes original tunes and arrangements from both the ensemble's members and local musical colleagues. The group plays a wide array of tunes drawing from jazz, swing, bluegrass, old-time, folk, and world music.

The library's spring StoryWalk is "Little Owl's Day" by Divya Srinivasan. The StoryWalk begins to the right of the library entrance and moves counterclockwise around the library.

Backyard Story Times will be held in the library's backyard on Wednesdays at 11:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. and on Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. through Wednesday, May 29, weather permitting. Registration is required weekly. People of all ages are welcome, and they should bring a blanket or chairs.

Children are invited to help Smokey Bear celebrate his 80th birthday by attending his program on May 6 at 4 p.m. Attendees will learn how to prevent wildfires and help the environment, and they may get started on Smokey's Reading Challenge. The program is geared for those ages 5 to 10.

During the Paws to Read program on Saturdays, May 11 and 25, from 10 to 11:30 a.m., children can read stories to trained therapy dogs.

Pennsylvania children's author Jenny Pease will visit the library on May 20 at 1 p.m. She will read aloud her book "I Love Harriet Kippley."

Parachute Play will be held on Tuesdays, May 21, May 28, and June 4, at 9:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., and 5 p.m. The program will last approximately 30 minutes. Participants are asked to attend all three weeks, and each class is limited to 12 children ages 3 to 5. Children should attend independently, but their parents must remain in the library. The classes will be led by Shannon Richard.
