Library Posts Programs for Patrons of All Ages

Milanof-Schock Library, 1184 Anderson Ferry Road, Mount Joy, will offer a variety of programming. All programs are free, unless stated otherwise, and require preregistration. For more information and to register, visit http://www.mslibrary.org or call 717-653-1510.

On Thursday, June 5, the W Donuts truck will be at the library from 10 a.m. to noon and Cupcakes by Casey will be there from 5 to 7 p.m.

The Eggroll Lady will be at the library on Saturday, June 7, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. On Tuesday, June 10, Brotherly Love Scratch Kitchen and Lori's Lattes will be at the library from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., followed by the Taco RV from 5 to 7 p.m.

The Friends of Milanof-Schock Library will hold their annual used book sale at Donegal High School on Thursday, June 19, through Saturday, June 21. Details for the sale are posted on the school's website and Facebook page.

With the exception of Monday, June 9, through Friday, June 28, gently used books and media can be donated to the self-service shed behind the library on Mondays through Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon.

The library will holds its Summer Reading Program kickoff on June 7 from 9 a.m. to noon. Attendees will be able to do some fun activities, get their reading logs and sign up for summer programs.

Programs for children and teens will include Family Story Times with Miss Jan on Wednesdays, June 11 and 25, at 10:30 a.m.; Fun Fort Friday for families on Friday, June 13, from 5 to 6 p.m.; Teen Chill & Draw with Hanna on Saturday, June 14, at 1 p.m.; Adventures with Baby on June 9 at 10:30 a.m. for children ages 6 months to 2 years; Family Lego Challenge on June 10 at 6 p.m.; and Fun Family Bingo on Tuesday, June 17, at 6 p.m.

Also for teens will be an Adulting 101 Series, which will begin on Thursday, June 26, at 6 p.m. First up in the five-part series is a program that will talk about budgeting to pay the bills that come with growing up, such as gas, cell phone and car payments; making sense of checking and savings accounts; and reviewing ways to start saving for the future.

A program about Forest Bathing, a Japanese practice that involves immersing oneself in the forest environment and connecting with nature through the senses, will be presented on Wednesday, June 16, at 6 p.m. by Calyx Liddick from the Northern Appalachia School.

A program about container ponds will be presented by Colleen Emmerling, a Penn State Extension Master Gardener, on June 25 at 6 p.m. Attendees will learn how to create a "pond in a pot" that they can enjoy for three seasons. No electricity or fish are needed.

Activities for adults will include Adult Game Night on Wednesdays, June 4 and 18, at 5 p.m.; Closely Knit, for knitters and crocheters, on Mondays, June 9 and 23, at 1 p.m., with no registration necessary; Joyful Stitchers Cross-Stitch Club, for people of all skill levels, on June 21 from 9:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.; Make-It Monday - Gelli Plate Prints on June 23 at 6 p.m.; and Book Discussion Group - Lit Lovers on Tuesday, June 24, at 6:30 p.m. The topic will be "Tom Lake" by Ann Patchett.

Adults may also pick up a Summer Reading Program passport. Details are available at the library.

Adults are invited to a viewing of "The Book Thief" on June 11 at 1:30 p.m. There will be free popcorn, but drinks are not provided.

The Friends of the Library will meet on June 9 at 6:30 p.m.

Easy Writer Club, for writers of all levels, will meet on June 18 at 6:30 p.m. No registration is required.

So You Want to be an Alpaca Farmer will be presented on June 26 at 10:30 a.m. Attendees will meet a few Alpacas and learn about what goes into raising them. There will be an opportunity for family photos.

Super Saturday with Farmer Luke Brubaker of Brubaker Farms in Mount Joy will be held on June 28 at 10 a.m. Brubaker will talk about what it's like to be a modern-day farmer.

Miss B. will bring her retired show dog Blaze, a certified KPET, to the library on Monday, June 30, at 10:30 a.m. Blaze will demonstrate commands, and Miss B. will talk about participating in dog shows.

Other special programs include the following: Busy as a Bee! pollinator program on June 18 at 10:30 a.m.; So You Want to be a Musician by members of the folk band Stone Soup on June 19 at 10:30 a.m.; Chalk Drawing with Miss Alyssa on June 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; and No. 2 Pencil Man Comic Book Hero, who will help children create a custom mask and cape, on June 24 at 10:30 a.m.
