Library Receives New AED Machine

The Middletown Public Library purchased and received a new AED machine with funds that had been donated from the dissolution of the Arthur King Scouts. An AED, or automated external defibrillator, is used to help those experiencing sudden cardiac arrest.

Arthur King was a resident of Middletown who owned the Middletown Car Works started in 1879 and produced railroad cars that hulled coal. He was active at St. Peter's Church as well as with the Boy Scouts. He donated a property in Lebanon County for a Boy Scout camp, which thrived for many generations until the late 1960s. The property was not active for many years and was recently sold.

The library had an AED machine, but it was going to exceed its standard practice useful life and was recommended for replacement. Library staff will be trained on the usage of the machine in case of an emergency situation where the defibrillator could save someone's life.
