Library Sets April Programs

Milanof-Schock Library, 1184 Anderson Ferry Road, Mount Joy, will offer a variety of programming in April. All programs are free, unless stated otherwise, and require preregistration. For more information and to register, visit http://www.mslibrary.org or call 717-653-1510.

Gently used books and media can be donated to the self-service shed behind the library on Mondays through Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Programs for children and families will include Reading with Sasha, a KPETS therapy dog, on Thursdays from 5 to 7 p.m.; Imagination Station, for children ages 2 to 7, Monday, April 6, at 10:30 a.m. with the theme "Flower Shop"; Wiggle & Giggle Story Time, Mondays, April 13 and 27, at 10:30 a.m. and Saturday, April 25, at 10 a.m., for children ages 6 months through 2 years; Curious Minds Story Time, led by a member of the Janus School team, Tuesday, April 21, at 10:30 a.m.; Family Story Time with Miss Alyssa, Wednesdays through April 29, at 10:30 a.m.; and Family Story Time with Miss Katelyn, Thursdays through April 30, at 10:30 a.m.

The Great Egg Heist will take place on Thursday, April 2, at 6 p.m. Young detectives will follow clues, solve puzzles, and complete challenges to crack the case of the library's missing eggs. Registration is required.

A Family Craft Night will be offered on April 6 at 6 p.m. Attendees will create a raised salt painting.

History Alive! will be held on Tuesday, April 7, at 2:30 p.m. for children age 6 and up. This new program will feature stories, role plays, and creative projects intended to help kids understand the human side of history while encouraging curiosity and critical thinking. The April program will explore the sinking of the Titanic.

Teen Chill & Draw with Hanna will be offered on Saturday, April 11, at 1 p.m. The library will provide drawing supplies, or teens may bring their own.

Special Guest Story Time will occur on Tuesday, April 14, at 10:30 a.m. Adrianna Rodriguez from the Lancaster YWCA will lead the program.

Little Tinker Thinkers, for kids age 6 and up, will take place on April 14 at 2:30 p.m. During the STEAM-based program, attendees will conduct an egg fizzle experiment.

Family Lego Challenge is planned for April 14 at 6 p.m. Families will be given Legos and asked to create something based on the assigned theme.

The library will host a Mad Tea Party, inspired by the tea party in "Alice in Wonderland," on Saturday, April 18, at 10:30 a.m. Attendees may decorate a wacky hat, celebrate an unbirthday, solve riddles, and drink tea. Snacks and beverages will be provided. Attendees are encouraged to wear costumes.

Parachute Play will be held on Monday, April 20, at 10:30 a.m. for kids ages 3 to 5 with a caregiver. The program will offer interactive play using a large parachute.

Children age 5 and up may celebrate Earth Day by attending Save the Pollinators on April 21 at 6 p.m. Kids will explore the world of bees, butterflies, and other pollinators through games, crafts, and interactive activities. Participants will also plant seeds.

Teen D&D will meet on Saturday, April 25, at 1 p.m. The group is currently closed to new members; those interested in joining in the future may contact Laura Bear at lbear@mslibrary.org.

Art Explorers will take place on Tuesday, April 28, at 2:30 p.m. Children age 6 and older are invited to learn about famous global artists and their paintings and create their own masterpieces.

English-ish Extravaganza will be held on April 21 at 2:30 p.m. The English-class-inspired program will offer children age 6 and up opportunities to read, write, and explore words through activities.

Reading the World will take place on Thursdays, April 9 and April 23, at 1:30 p.m. for those age 6 and up. The program will offer presentations about different places around the world, along with stories or folklore and a craft. The topics will be Cairo, Egypt, on April 9 and Tokyo, Japan, on April 23.

Snuggle Up Family Story Time will be held on April 9 at 6 p.m. Participants may wear their pajamas and bring a blanket and stuffie.

Saturday Family Story Time is scheduled for April 11 at 10 a.m. The program will focus on the jungle.

Activities for adults will include Closely Knit, a program for knitters and crocheters, April 13 and 27 at 1 p.m., with no registration necessary; Adult Game Night, Wednesday, April 15, at 5 p.m.; Adult Book Bingo, April 15 at 2 p.m.; and Book Discussion Group - Lit Lovers, April 28 at 6:30 p.m., with the topic of "The Bear and the Nightingale" by Katherine Arden.

Rodney Garber will present The Making of "The Quiet Gospel" on Wednesday, April 8, at 6 p.m. Garber will share the story behind his book, which points to a quieter, relational approach to faith. The program will include a short discussion and a question-and-answer time, as well as an opportunity to meet the author and have a copy of the book signed.

The Easy Writer Club will hold its next gathering on April 15 at 6:30 p.m. The club is open to writers of all levels - beginners to published. No registration is required.

The Friends of the Library will meet on April 13 at 6:30 p.m.

Community members are welcome to attend the library's board meeting on Thursday, April 16, at 6:30 p.m.

Basic Bike Maintenance and Flat Tire Repair will be held on Wednesday, April 22, at 6:30 p.m. Cycleworks employee and bike enthusiast Kurt Enck will walk attendees through the basics of bicycle repair, from quick fixes to simple maintenance. This is a demonstration-only workshop, and participants should not bring their bikes.

The library will offer Make-It Monday on April 27 at 6 p.m.
