Library slates activities

Adamstown Area Library (AAL), 110 W. Main St., Adamstown, will host a variety of free programs and events for children and adults. To register, visit http://www.adamstownarealibrary.org and click on Events.

The Summer Reading Program - "All Together Now!" - will offer programs for children, teens, adults, and families throughout the summer. Kids from birth to age 19 can earn prizes for logging their reading and activities through Saturday, Aug. 12.

Community members may also visit the library to pick up GO Lancaster! booklets and rubbing sheets. The program encourages people to get outdoors.

Adults are invited to read five books to complete a Book Genre Bingo card and return the card to the library by Aug. 12 to enter the prize drawing.

The library will be closed on Tuesday, July 4, for the holiday.

The library Friends will hold book sales in the community room from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 11, and from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesdays, July 18 and 25.

Young At Heart, for people age 60 and up, will be offered by REAL Life Community Services on Wednesdays, July 5 and 19, from 9 to 11 a.m. For details, call 717-336-7797 or visit http://www.reallcs.org.

Story time programs will include Twinkling Stars Baby Story Time on Thursdays for babies at 10 a.m.; Budding Bookworms Preschool Story Time only on Wednesdays, July 5, 12 and 19, for children ages 3 to 6 at 10 and 11 a.m., with no story time on Wednesday, July 26; and "The Young and the Restless" Toddler Time for toddlers on Thursdays at 11 a.m. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Doggie Downtime will take place on July 5 from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. People of all ages may visit with Twinkle the dog.

Ran'D Shine will present The Magic Box Show on July 5 at 1:30 p.m. at Adamstown Grove. The program, for people of all ages, includes illusions, sleight of hand and storytelling.

Tech Q&A will be offered on July 5 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. People can receive help with electronic devices. Assistance is also available at other times by appointment.

Lancaster County Department of Parks & Recreaction will present Food Chains on Friday, July 7, at 10 a.m. at Adamstown Grove. The program is for people of all ages.

Toddler Activity: Rescue Our Community Heroes, a drop-in program, will be held on Monday, July 10, from 10 a.m. to noon. The program will give children ages 2 and 3 an opportunity to practice their fine motor skills.

Graphic novelist Kayla Miller will be featured in the Teen SummerZine meetings on July 11 and 25 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. The program is available via Zoom only and is for youths ages 12 to 19. Registration is required at http://www.lancasterlibraries.org/teen-summerzine-2023/.

The Genealogy Group will meet on July 11 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. It is for older students and adults.

Nature shows for people of all ages will be held at Pavilion C at Refreshing Mountain Retreat and Adventure Center, 455 Camp Road, Stevens, on July 11 and 18 at 10 a.m. Attendees will hear about Pennsylvania native and exotic creatures. Registration is required, and each family must sign a release form at each event.

Pool Story Time at Denver Community Pool will be held on July 12 at 1 p.m. Attendees must pay the pool entrance fee, which will be discounted, or have a pool membership.

Adults and older teens are invited to attend a Craft Workshop on Thursday, July 13, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Attendees will complete a small cross-stitch project, with materials and instruction provided. Registration is required.

Lancaster County Solid Waste Management Authority will present Recycle Right, for people of all ages, on Friday, July 14, at 10 a.m. at Adamstown Grove.

Critters of All Kinds with Jesse Rothacker will showcase animals from around the world on July 18 at 1:30 p.m. at Adamstown Grove. The program is open to people of all ages.

Pool Story Time at Adamstown Community Pool will be offered on July 19 at 1 p.m. Attendees must pay the pool entrance fee, which will be discounted, or have a pool membership.

Dinosaur Dig: Expedition Adventure will be held on July 25 at 10 a.m. People of all ages may experience a paleontological dig.

Mini-Chef Morning, for children age 6 and under with an adult, will be presented on July 26 at 10:30 a.m. at Adamstown Grove in place of story time. A GIANT Food Stores nutritionist will provide children the skills to make a snack.

The library will host Some Favorite Artifacts From the Ephrata Cloister on Thursday, July 27, at 6 p.m. Curator Kerry Mohn will share historical items from Ephrata Cloister in this illustrated talk for adults and teens. Registration is requested.

Several activities will be available throughout the summer. Sidewalk Sunshine, a sidewalk chalk activity focused on emotions, will be available on the ramp for children. Teens may stop by the library's teen section to share how someone helped them become a better person. People of all ages may pick up a Kindness Heart and write down one way they have shown kindness this summer. They may also take or leave a decorated Kindness Rock in the library's front flower beds.
