Library System Plans Virtual Programs

The Dauphin County Library System has planned programs for people of all ages. Unless otherwise noted, the following activities will take place on Zoom, and registration is required for most programs. Regularly occurring programs are as follows: Family Story Time, for families with children of all ages, Tuesdays from 6 to 6:30 p.m.; Toddler Story Time, for toddlers ages 19 to 35 months, Wednesdays from 10 to 10:30 a.m.; Preschool Story Time, for children ages 3 to 5, Fridays from 10 to 10:30 a.m.; Dungeons and Dragons, for people ages 13 to 18, virtually on Discord, Fridays from 4 to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 3 to 5 p.m.; Born to Read, for children birth to 18 months and their parents, grandparents, or caregivers, Mondays from 9:30 to 10 a.m.; Anime Club, for people ages 13 to 18, virtually on Discord, Mondays from 4 to 5 p.m.; Discord Hangouts: Gaming, for people ages 13 to 18, virtually on Discord, Tuesdays from 3 to 5 p.m.; Animal Crossing with The Library, for people ages 11 to 18, virtually via Nintendo Switch, Tuesdays from 3:30 to 5 p.m., drop-in; Virtual Create Lab, for children ages 6 to 12, Wednesdays from 4 to 4:45 p.m.; YA Book Club, for people ages 14 to 17, Wednesdays from 4 to 6:30 p.m.; and Discord Hangouts: Chat, for people ages 13 to 18, virtually on Discord, Thursdays from 3 to 5 p.m.

Mental Health Series: Yoga will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 13, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. People age 18 and up of all levels may attend.

D&D Tutorial (Tweens and Teens) will take place on Thursday, Jan. 14, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. This program is for tweens and teens ages 11 to 18 who have never played Dungeons and Dragons or who want a refresher on the fifth edition of the game.

People age 18 and up are invited to play Dungeons and Dragons on Jan. 14 from 7 to 8 p.m. People of all experience levels are welcome.

Mindfulness for Teens will be offered on Saturday, Jan. 16, from 10 to 11 a.m. The library system's teen services staff will lead a program of self-care, mindfulness, and yoga. This program is for teens ages 13 to 18.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons, for adults, will be held on Tuesday, Jan. 19, from 4 to 6 p.m.

Dr. Hannah Mudrick, assistant professor of human development and family studies at Penn State Harrisburg, will present Lazy Little Loafers: Love, Laughter, and a Good Internet Connection: Supporting the Socioemotional Development of Young Children. This program, set for Thursday, Jan. 21, from 7 to 8 p.m., is intended for people age 16 and up and spotlights Susan Orlean's "Lazy Little Loafers."

Families with children of all ages are invited to join in Family Paint Parties on Saturday, Jan. 23, from 10 to 10:30 a.m. and on Thursday, Jan. 28, from 6 to 6:30 p.m. A simple, seasonal project will be explained step-by-step. Supply lists will be emailed to participants and will also be available at library system locations. Many of the supplies used can be found around the house.

Black Girl Health Foundation, the Dauphin County Library System, and the National Network of Libraries of Medicine will hold Minds Matter Harrisburg via Facebook Live on Jan. 23 from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Workshops will cover the topics of nutrition, financial health, bridging the racial divide, Pilates, holistic approaches to coping with anxiety and depression, and children's mental health. Job Seeker Resources: Resume and Cover Letter 101 will be offered on Tuesday, Jan. 26, from 6 to 7 p.m. for adults. This event will be presented in collaboration with the Career Services Department of HACC, Central Pennsylvania's Community College.

Yarn-crafters age 15 and up are invited to gather their supplies for Knit One, Crochet Too! on Wednesday, Jan. 27, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Lawyers in Libraries: Civil Legal Services: How to Avoid an Eviction Using Free Mediation will be offered on Jan. 28 from 6 to 7 p.m. The presenters will be attorney Matthew Rich of MidPenn Legal Services and attorney Jordan D. Cunningham of Cunningham, Chernicoff & Warshawsky, a member of the Dauphin County Bar Association's Pro Bono Program. A question-and-answer time will follow.
