Library to kick off Summer Reading Program

Middletown Public Library will kick off its Summer Reading Program on Monday, June 12. This year's theme will be "All Together Now," and it will revolve around kindness, friendship and unity. Separate programs will be offered in children, teen and adult categories, and those who track their reading progress will win prizes.

The library is partnering with Middletown Area School District (MASD), Middletown Area Recreational Alliance and Together Y.O.U.T.H. to bring children up to age 18 free programming throughout the summer. The library has received many donations for the Summer Reading Program from local businesses and organizations, including the Frey Trust and the Hershey Chocolate Company. Prizes will include Twin Ponds ice skating passes and gifts cards from Karns Quality Foods, Sharp Shopper and Giant.

New children and youth services librarian Madelyn Sheridan and cataloger Daphne Hess are putting together the Summer Reading Program.

Starting on June 12, patrons may sign up for the program in person at the library or at http://www.middletownpubliclib.beanstack.org/reader365.

The MASD will also provide free lunches to all children on weekdays at St. Peter's Church, 121 N. Spring St., Middletown. In addition, the library will host free performances at the church on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. After the programs, children can eat lunch for free and win door prizes.

The following Wednesday performances will be featured: Tom Crowl on June 14, Erick Hershey Magic on June 21, Andrew's Big Show on June 28, Bright Star Theatre on July 5, Grins & Grins on July 12, Silly Joe Sings! on July 19, Talewise on July 26 and Two of a Kind on Aug. 2.
