Library will host Kraybill Student Art Show

"There's nothing as refreshing as the enthusiasm of young artists," said Jan Betty, director of children and youth at the Milanof-Schock Library. Head out to the library, 1184 Anderson Ferry Road, Mount Joy, on Saturday, May 6, and you can see art created by students. The Kraybill Student Art Show will be held from 10 a.m. to noon and will feature a variety of artwork from students at Kraybill Mennonite School, located in Mount Joy.

The library has hosted an art show with students in Donegal School District in the past, Betty said, and during the most recent show of district art, a Kraybill parent suggested including Kraybill students in a show since the school is also in the library's service area. "It seemed like a great venue to showcase student art, and Kraybill is a great school," Betty noted.

She worked with Bre Martinez, the new art teacher at Kraybill, who was enthusiastic about the idea of showcasing student art. "This will be her first art show as Kraybill's new teacher," Betty commented.

Students in grades three through eight will be displaying works including self-portraits, landscape paintings and collages. From 10 to 11 a.m., some of the artists will be on-site to talk about their work. "We will include comment cards if anybody wants to tell an artist how much they enjoyed the art," Betty remarked.

She encourages people to come out and see the creativity of the students firsthand. "We're just so excited to host the show and hope it will be a yearly occurrence at the library," Betty shared. "I can't wait to go through the art show myself."
