East Hanover Lions awarded two 2023 Jonas J. Walmer Service Scholarships of $1,000. The club made a commitment to this scholarship in 2004 in memory of its last charter member, Jonas J. Walmer, who was a valuable member of the club and he exemplified the Lions Club motto, "We Serve."

Grace E. Bomgardner from Northern Lebanon High School and Jeffrey M. LaRuffa from Lower Dauphin High School were the recipients of the scholarships. They were chosen for demonstrating the same qualities of service as Walmer.

Bomgardner received the award from Lions Club members Linda Sandy Spatz and Paul Sandy Sr. at the Northern Lebanon High School awards program in May. LaRuffa accepted the scholarship from club members Don Espenshade and Nancy Gamber in May 31 at the Lower Dauphin High School awards program.
