Lions Club Raises Funds, Makes Donation

The Hershey Lions Club recently launched its annual Sight and Service Campaign and also made a donation to the Hershey Food Bank.

The Sight and Service Campaign raises funds to help Derry Township residents, and all funds raised through the effort go back to the public in the form of service projects and donations. Since its beginning, the club has collected almost $100,000 through the campaign.

Money raised through the campaign allows Lions to benefit the community, not just through financial support but also through hands-on service. Current needs in the community include eye exams and glasses for residents in need, local student scholarships, sponsorship of youth sports teams, medical equipment assistance, support of the Hershey Food Bank, providing meals at the Ronald McDonald House, disaster response, Grace United Methodist Church's "Ready for School" project, and tree planting.

Donations can be made to Lions club's foundation, which is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, and all contributions are fully tax-deductible. Club members prepared mailers, but anyone in the community may contribute. For information on how to donate, readers may search for @hersheylions on Facebook.

Additionally, the Hershey Lions Club recently made a $500 donation to the Hershey Food Bank to help the fight against hunger. This donation aligns with the Lions Clubs International Foundation's (LCIF) efforts to raise awareness about hunger during January.

Odette Bergloff of the Hershey Food Bank thanked the Hershey Lions Club for its support. She noted that while the numbers of families and individuals served has remained steady, the food bank has experienced increased requests for help with utilities and rent assistance. The food bank provides this support on an emergency basis to registered clients if they meet eligibility criteria and if the food bank has available funds.

Members of the Hershey Lions Club anticipate resuming meetings. Normally, the club meets on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at 6:15 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church, 433 E. Main St., Hummelstown. Lions clubs are groups of men and women who identify needs within the community and work together to meet those needs.
