Lititz Farmers Market Opens For Season

The Lititz Farmers Market opened on May 20, and the vendors who gathered are looking forward to bringing fruits, vegetables, flowers, meats, dairy products, baked goods, and flowers to the venue each Thursday evening into October. "It's a new market," said market manager Dave Fahnestock. "There are a lot of people living and working close by (who we hope will visit)."

The Lititz Farmers Market is an outdoor community-supported growers farm market located at the edge of Lititz Springs Park at 24 N. Broad St., Lititz, near the park fountain. Lititz Farmers Market is sponsored by Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health and is a program of Venture Lititz, downtown Lititz's Main Street program. Plans are to hold the market rain or shine. Market hours will be 4 to 8 p.m. until Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 6, when they will change to 4 to 7:30 p.m. There will be no market day during the Fourth of July holiday week.

Vendors coming to this year's market will include those selling meats; such as pork; eggs; maple syrup; milk, cheese, and other dairy products; fruit, especially tree fruits; bread; cookies; day lilies; cut flowers; and gardening items.

Rafiki Shoppe, a food vendor, will sell prepared African food items from under a market canopy.

Fahnestock was pleased with the market kickoff. "It went well," he said. "A couple vendors completely sold out. We still need to learn how much to bring."

Venture Lititz executive director Holly DeKarske said that she would like to see area residents and those who work in Lititz Borough frequent the market. "In order for market to continue and to grow, people need to support the vendors and shop with them," she said. "If you want a shop, a vendor, or a restaurant to survive, you have to shop there."
