Lititz Stroller Gang is baking up something special

It's a group of individuals doing what they're good at, pooling their talents for a greater cause.

The Lititz Stroller Gang, a collection of moms, is holding a bake sale.

"We have so many bakers in our group," said Ashley Mayer, the Lititz Stroller Gang's founder. "Everything is 'momma makes.' It falls in line with where our talents are. It's very much these moms doing what they love. We're baking real, authentic stuff. It's from their kitchens."

The Lititz Stroller Gang is staging this year's edition of its annual fundraising bake sale on Saturday, April 19, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the sidewalk in front of the entrance to Lititz Springs Park, 24 N. Broad St., Lititz. The social/service group will accept cash and payment via the online financial apps PayPal and Venmo for baked goods, but not credit cards.

"It's so amazing when we get to that day, just to see all the love moms put into things," said Mayer. "It's handmade things made with love. A lot of people know about us, but you get a glimpse of what our group is about. We do really like the fellowship, just hanging out and having a good time."

Some of the 500 featured items that will be available at the bake sale include breakfast goods, sourdough bread loaves, seasoned pretzels, scones, banana bread, pastries, crisped rice treats, chocolate-covered pretzels, mini shoofly pies, cupcakes, cookies and muffins, as well as gluten-free and vegan offerings. Also being offered that day will be coffee, water and kids' drinks.

In addition, the Lititz Stroller Gang will operate a build-your-own bouquet bar, equipped with various flowers and greens.

Nearly 40 moms associated with the Lititz Stroller Gang have committed to donating items for the event.

"We always have music playing," said Mayer. "We make bouquets. It's very pretty. It's like a whole vibe. It'll be Eastery. We're going to play up the spring theme."

The Lititz Stroller Gang is aiming to make $2,000 through the bake sale. Some of the proceeds from the event will be donated to Schreiber Center for Pediatric Development, while the remainder will be used to offset the costs of two upcoming Lititz Stroller Gang events - a tea party/dinner/moms' night out at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 28, at Cameron Estate Inn in Mount Joy and a family day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 6, at Lititz Springs Park.

The Lititz Stroller Gang was originally founded in 2021 as a social group for moms looking for exercise and activities for their children. It took the group less than a year to conduct its first fundraising bake sale.

"At that point, it was just a fellowship group," said Mayer, a resident of Lititz. "It's morphed into something more than a moms' group. We are a Christian-based group. I wanted to share God's Word with people and make some friends. The bake sale was our first fundraiser, and then we decided we needed to become more official. We decided we wanted to do bigger things. We always want to bless others."

The Lititz Stroller Gang meets every Thursday at 9 a.m. at Lititz Springs Park during warm-weather months and at places like Spooky Nook Sports and local churches during the colder months. With strollers in tow, members of the group - as many as 60 at a time - walk for about 30 minutes or 1.5 miles.

The moms reside in Lititz, Ephrata, Denver, Mount Joy, the city of Lancaster, York and Reading.

"The group is always changing," said Mayer. "The core of the group has always been around, but there's at least one new person every week. The mission has always stayed the same. A lot of moms are coming for play time."
