Livengood, Dean recognized

Lauren Livengood and Owen Dean, seniors at Lampeter-Strasburg High School, have been selected as Lancaster South Rotary Club's Students of the Month for November. They were presented to the club by Ben Feeney, principal of Lampeter-Strasburg High School. Students of the Month are selected on the basis of academic excellence as well as school and community service.

Lauren is the daughter of Matthew and Christine Livengood of Lancaster. She is a co-president of National Honor Society, president of the senior class, senior representative to the school board, president of the Inter-club Council and a member of Mini-THON's executive council, mock trial, and Student Council.

In eighth grade, she was awarded the Science Burrowes Scholar award, and in 11th grade, she received the Burrowes Social Studies award.

In the community, Lauren is a member of LEDC competitive dance team. She is involved in activities at the Lampeter Church of the Brethren, and this past summer, she participated in a mission trip to Texas along with many volunteer opportunities. Following graduation, Lauren plans to attend college.

Owen is the son of Jesse and Laura O'Conner of Lancaster. He is president of the STEM club, vice president of quiz bowl, treasurer of the Tri-M Music Honor Society, and a member of the concert band, jazz band, marching band, and Interact Club. This fall, Owen qualified as a National Merit Scholarship Semifinalist. In fifth and eighth grades, he received the Burrowes Scholar Award in math. In the community, Owen volunteers with the Strasburg Fire Company's breakfast fundraiser and with the Lions Club's pit beef fundraiser. Following graduation, Owen plans to attend college and major in engineering with a minor in physics.
