Lancaster Mennonite School (LMS) is planning to host its annual family-friendly Fall Festival and Homecoming at the Lancaster Mennonite High School campus, 2176 Lincoln Highway East, Lancaster, on Friday and Saturday , Oct. 1 and 2. Events will include the varsity girls' soccer and field hockey games, the Iron Bridge 5K, food, a carnival, and live music.

Activities planned for Oct. 1 will include takeout pork and chicken barbecue meals from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., with outdoor picnic areas open to enjoy. Organizers suggest that barbecue meals should be preordered at http://www.lancastermennonite.org. Live music by the Lancaster Mennonite Modern Band will be played from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., and children's activities will be held from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Family fun will include a hay bale maze and petting zoo. Guided campus tours will be given from 4 to 5 p.m.

The varsity girls' soccer game against Pequea Valley will be held at 4 p.m., and the varsity girls' field hockey game against Lancaster Country Day will start at 7 p.m.

On Oct. 2, the day will kick off with the Iron Bridge 5K Run/Walk. Check-in will be held at 9:15 a.m., and the race will begin at 10 a.m. The FFA pancake brunch will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Those wishing to join in may order online or at the door. At noon, the family carnival, which will include face painting, carnival games, and kids' passport activities, will begin. Guided campus tours will be held from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.

An outdoor concert, which will be held at 2 p.m. on Oct. 2, will feature The Walking Roots Band. The concert will take place in the grass field next to Gym A and the Mill Stream. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs and blankets to enjoy the music of this acoustic, "blue-ish-grassy" group based in Harrisonburg, Va. The band's original folk music and reclaimed hymns are supported with vocal harmonies.
