Local church sets Jazz Sunday

Wayside Presbyterian Church, 600 Stony Battery Road, Landisville, will hold a jazz worship service on Sunday, May 7, at 10 a.m.

This is the second jazz service orchestrated by Charlie Postas, Wayside's accompanist. Joining him for this year's Jazz Sunday will be West Chester University (WCU) jazz musicians Jordan Colucci on bass and Jack Harnish on drums. Jonathan Jedrzejek from Millersville University will play alto sax. Rounding out the group on trumpet will be Jonah Gelbart, a senior at Hempfield High School, who will attend WCU in September.

Postas, a former New Jersey high school music teacher, is a career musician who also has more than 30 years experience in music ministry. He serves on Wayside's music team under the direction of Janelle Pabon. This year's Jazz Sunday music will include hymn arrangements as well as jazz standards by Duke Ellington, Oliver Nelson, Jerome Kern, Herbie Hancock and others.

The community is welcome to attend. For additional information, call the church office at 898-1551 or visit http://www.waysidepc.org.

During the school year, Wayside Presbyterian Church offers two styles of Sunday morning worship, including a traditional service with choir from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., followed by refreshments and fellowship, then an informal contemporary service with Grace Notes, Wayside's praise band, from 11 a.m. to noon.

Wayside is a smaller, friendly congregation where all are welcome. The church is located about halfway between the former QVC and Hempfield High School.
