Local resident to discuss military career with online students

In 2005, Noah Ream of Morgantown knew he wanted to take after his father and join the U.S. Marines. After years of serving on active duty in Afghanistan and leading his group as machine gun section sergeant, Ream is now on Reserve duty with the Marines while teaching fifth-grade math at Reach Cyber Charter School. He will share his experiences in the military with the statewide online public charter school's elementary and middle school students in a special educational presentation on Wednesday, Nov. 6.

Ream's presentation is part of Reach Cyber's Military Week. The week began on Nov. 4 and will run through Thursday, Nov. 14. Military Week includes a series of virtual presentations to Reach Cyber's kindergarten through 12th-grade students, where a recruiter from each branch of the military - the Marines, the Army and Reserves, the Air Force and Space Force, the Navy and Coast Guard, Civil Air Patrol and Sea Cadets - educates those students on the many different opportunities within each branch and the recruitment processes and shares personal stories and advice.

Ream credits his decision of becoming a teacher to his joy from meeting young children in Afghanistan while on active duty, as well as his commitment to putting others first, which was engrained in him and his peers while on active duty.
