Lower Dauphin Craft Fair To Benefit Student Musicians

The Lower Dauphin Craft Fair, featuring more than 100 vendors, will take place at Lower Dauphin High School (LDHS), 201 S. Hanover St., Hummelstown, on Saturday, Nov. 12, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is free.

Crafters will be located in the two LDHS cafeterias, the gymnasium and surrounding hallways. "(Shoppers) will see everything from hand crocheted items, hats and baby items to fine woodworking, iron crafts, paintings, Christmas and fall decor," said Kelly Groscost, craft fair chairperson. Also offered will be skin care products, specialty soaps, jewelry, artisan chocolates and candles along with dog treats and other pet items.

While the show is not juried, crafters must complete an application to participate. "Everything is handmade. We don't accept any resellers or home-based businesses," Groscost noted.

New this year, four food trucks will be on hand during the show: On My Grind Coffee, Mamma's Meltz, ShreddRRz and East Coast Mini Donuts.

This year's event is being presented by the Lower Dauphin Band Boosters. In the past, the show was coordinated by Ken Kulina, baseball coach, who organized the annual craft fair for more than 30 years. "It always benefited the baseball team. (The baseball players) helped the vendors set up and ran a concession the day of the event," said Groscost. "(Kulina) was the sole manager (of the craft fair) up until 2019, which was his last year."

She noted that the craft show was canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic and it was not held in 2021 as the transition took place between the two organizers. "The Boosters are very excited and proud to carry on this annual tradition," Groscost said, adding that LDHS students will volunteer on the day of the event.

The show will feature some of the same vendors from prior years, as well as new crafters. "We are welcoming many newcomers with the hopes of building a strong core of crafters and artisans for years to come," Groscost stated.

Vendors pay a fee to rent a space, the proceeds of which will benefit the Lower Dauphin Band Boosters, whose mission is "to support our band, our musicians and the talented musical faculty that guides them through their musicianship and performance events."

The Band Boosters is predominantly composed of parents of students who are band members. "Band members can be concert band, marching band, jazz band, indoor drumline and the middle school band," said Groscost. Keith Richardson is the high school band director, and Greg Hutchison is the middle school band director.

"The Boosters want to thank the school district for letting us have the craft fair again this year and for their support," Groscost added.
