Lower Dauphin seniors win scholarships

Two seniors at Lower Dauphin High School recently received scholarships.

Carter Lammando is among 110 students nationwide who received a Navy ROTC scholarship through the Immediate Scholarship Reservation (ISR) program. Commanding officers at the nation's 26 Navy Talent Acquisition Groups can award up to four ISR scholarships, bypassing the usual process through which the application would be reviewed along with thousands of others by a board of officers. In November, Carter underwent an hour-and-a-half interview with the commanding officer in charge of the Navy Talent Acquisition Group Philadelphia Command, which encompasses regions of Pennsylvania, Maryland, New Jersey, West Virginia and Delaware. A few months later, Carter was notified he will receive a full, four-year scholarship, including all fees and books.

Carter is the son of Marie Conley and Chris Lammando. He is a four-year member of the boys' volleyball team; a two-year member of Student Council, where he is secretary; and a two-year member of the Computer Science Honor Society, where he is a founding member and the treasurer. Carter is also a two-year member of the National Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, History Honor Society and Nanoline Computer Science Club. He is a four-year member of Ski Club, and he participates on the high school Quiz Bowl team. In the community, he volunteers with Lower Dauphin Communities That Care.

He plans to attend The Ohio State University to major in computer science and participate in Navy ROTC.

Additionally, the Dauphin County Music Educators' Association (DCMEA) awarded Joseph Goduto a DCMEA Senior Scholarship of $500. All students qualified to apply through their participation in the DCMEA 2022-23 music competitions and festivals. DCMEA presented a total of $4,725 to this year's 18 scholarship winners.

Joseph, the son of Robert and Susan Goduto, is a four-year member of the orchestra, in which he plays the viola. During his orchestral career, he has participated in the Lebanon Valley College Honors Orchestra and the Pennsylvania Music Educators Association's district, regional and all-state honor ensembles. He is a four-year member and the current president of the Tri-M Music Honor Society. In the community, he performed as the principle violist with the Hershey Symphony Festival Strings Orchestra and with the Central Pennsylvania Symphony Orchestra and the Lebanon Valley College Symphony Orchestra. He also serves as a substitute pianist for his church. He plans to attend Grove City College with a double major in music education and piano performance.
